Here's a blow by blow of the OP's situation:
First off, the OP has done a channel scan and can view the sat box but the image does not fill the screen. Somewhere either on the remote or in the on-screen menu there will be a function to change aspect ration and zoom. You can select zoom to fill the screen.
His cable box is already connected via HDMI and and he can view that fine.
I'm assuming that the sat box has only coax RF out and composite out and no HDMI or component outputs. Both of the outputs are 480 standard definition. RF being the worst of the two outputs. Even if the box could receive high def the output to the TV would be standard def.
His TV is a Vizio V405-G9 which does not have a component (RGB) input.
I have a Vizio 32" TV. At the time that I purchased it, it was about the only 32" that had a 1080 screen. Great picture but would not buy another one. It takes forever to do a channel scan. If you have stations coming in from a different direction you have to do a complete scan and lose the previous ones. You can not add to the existing list. On other TVs I was able to enter in the RF channel and the TV would remap the RF channel to the virtual channel without doing a complete scan.
