Buffalo DriveStation 3Tb External Hard Drive -- Dead ??

I have a Buffalo DriveStation USB 3.0 3TB External Hard Drive (HD-LC3.0U3) that is "dead". Either the electronic or the HD is bad.

If the electronics is bad can I take the 3Tb HD out and use the HD in my desktop computer -- I assume it is a SATA drive.

If the HD is bad, can I install a replacement standard HD in the DriveStation?

Agreed, a 3tb SSD would be very pricey!

Wow, I didn't realize they had gotten that cheap!

    Bigger are still too pricey

  • I've given up on spinning platters, I run a chipset hard drive now. No need to defrag ever either and it runs cool and quiet.
  • Yes, you can connect the drive inside the enclosure to your computer, it will be a standard SATA drive.

Yes, you can put a regular SATA drive into the enclosure, the electronics don't care about the drive itself, they just convert USB to SATA
