My laptop is almost seven years old.Works, but sometimes hangs up. Would a tablet do everything a computer can do? If so which one?

My cell phone (Android) has Canon Print installed. It can print (Photos only) to the Canon Multi-fucntion box, and it says it can scan from it too (Though I have not yet attempted that funtion)

Alas, it only prints web pages and such to Samsung printers at this time but I am fairly sure that will soon be fixed.

Our music is stored on iCloud, iTunes has two radio modes for listening to either terrestrial radio, internet, or custom music stations, there are numerous apps for audio, and Netflix meets my TV/movie needs that aren't alway available on satellite, so our iPhone 4 and MacBook Air do the trick nicely when camping.

A tablet will not do everything a Mac or Windows computer would do, but IOS, Windows, or Android tablets will maybe do everything you need it to do.

If you are content to store your information on "the Cloud" and buy cloud computing services, you might find that what you need to do, that your tablet can't do, can be done for you by computers at Adibe, Google, Apple, or Microsoft.

The tasks I do on my deskside and laptop computers that my tablet doesn't do (or I choose not to do) include:

Managing my tablets and pocket devices.
Managing photo, video, and music libraries (collectively about 400GB).
Image, video, audio capture, including scanning.
Image processing.
Video editing and video processing, DVD creation.
MS Flight Simulator 9

One limitation of most tablet devices is that they are not set up to function as host comptuers, managing scanners, storage devices, Android devices can be made to cross this boundary but not all do. Windows tablets can be fully capable Windows computers, being a tablet just a packaging and marketing issue. Other Windows tablets are less capable. has been a pocket, mobile, or tablet OS called Windows for about 20 years, each iteration more capable, but current incarnation, Windows RT is still no equivalent to mainstream, Windows 8.

The other limitation of tablets is no matter how carefully you type, things get messed up, sometimes by spell checkers that think you are trying to say something else.

the tablet has a much longer battery life than my phone when it comes to web browsing etc.

Get an 18 dollar mobile charger for the phone from amazon (5200mah).
I just bought 2 one fits in the pocket the other is huge (12000mah) for bicycling, hiking etc.
The big one will charge a tablet 3 times from dead to full (2.1 amp output)

Pretty handy for keeping the phone alive on a hard days use.
Just a thot for you...

I agree with this.

My smartphone has pretty much taken over.

Depends on two things.

1: What tablet.. Example. here are now some Windows Tablets that can come dang close to a PC in what they can do... However a Chrome or Android or I-Tablet can not run most Windows software.

2: What do you want it to do.. They all run browsers for example, Different browsers for different boxes but they all run at least one browser.

Not always, it depends on the particular hardware as well as what Android version you have.

As for the OP's question of whether a tablet can replace a laptop, I believe that has to be answered by each individual, there is no blanket answer. For me, the answer is an emphatic no, for someone else, the answer may very well be yes. It depends what it is you do with the laptop/tablet. The more of a content consumer you are the more likely a tablet will be able to completely fulfill your computing needs.
