Can you clear the Gas Station awning--Laser Measuring

TUiREL T70 Laser Tape Measure

After a few near misses scraping my A/C units off of my 13.6 ft high fifth wheel, I looked for and bought what's turned out to be a really good and inexpensive ($38) digital laser tape measure.

The only negative was the single sheet owner's manual (1 side English, 1 side Chinese). So I scanned and re-arranged the instructions to be more meaningful. Now it's a 5 page PDF file with big print.

As a bonus, this unit can measure the height of your trailer without you having to crawl up there (hint: It supports the Pythagorian Theorem)

I've posted for public sharing at the clicky link in the beginning of this message. Also, I shared this with the manufacturer and they have no issues.
  • How does it account for the height of your a/c units if you don't crawl up there? For me it's a one time measurement with a stick and tape measure. Never came close to getting anything with our 13' + fifth wheel.
  • This last summer I pulled in to a neighborhood chain 7/11 type station located at the intersection of 2 major freeways in Wichita Falls Tx. As Imwas pulling in my wife glanced at our reflection in the store fronts windows and yelled Stop! Just before I was about to hit my front A/C. I hit the brakes and went up the ladderto confirm my clearance since I was almost out of diesel. I did not have a clearance, it was about 8" short. I had to back out onto the freeway service road to go somewhere else.
  • The vast vast majority of gas stations canopys can easily accommodate the 13'6 trailers of the delivery trucks that service the C Store.

This has been this way for more years than I can count.

I think you have an answer in search of a problem.

Most trips we only travel about 300 miles each day so I can do that on one tank. If I need to fill up en-route I tend to look for the big stations or truck stops right off the interstate.

    Most have 15ft tall awnings.

Or I fill up when I'm not hitched to the 5th wheel. Like in the morning before we hitch up to leave.

However the laser tape would be nice for some of the campgrounds where overhanging branches could cause a problem. Or some of the country roads where bridges aren't marked for height.

X2 - or when you wonder if your new campsite is long enough or wide enough.
