Controlling DirecTV Stream?

We're going to be on the road for a couple of weeks later this year and we'll probably stream DirecTV content from hotspot to laptop to TV via HDMI. We've streamed content like this before, but only when we're watching something long-form, like UFC fights.

My question is, is there any way to change the channel on my laptop without doing it the old fashioned way (standing up and walking over to the computer)? Is there an app that would let me switch the channels from my iPhone or tablet?

  • You can download the direct tv app on your laptop and have your laptop on the hotspot. Therefore you can change channels on your laptop through the app.

Not a bad idea. I might need binoculars though.
I guess it depends on how big the TV screen is. I go up to the chrome menu and zoom to 200% and can read the current show and one more.

I have a USB wireless mouse. The range seems to be a least 10'. I can sit in the recliner and use the mouse to access the channel directory and change stations. It works for the xfinity streaming website, I am not familiar with the Direct website. If all you have to do is click and/or scroll, it should work fine.
