Direct tv wanting us to change over from Dish. We are happy with Dish, but Direct will save us a lot,for changing over. We take our receiver from home to Yuma in winter, does it work the same with Direct as with Dish?

my son is an installer for direct tv and he told me it would be OK to get another receiver and he would set it up for me. that is what we are going to do. friends of mine take theirs from home and give a Calif address so they can get the local stations.

I have tried that before, years ago. They would rather lose a valued high paying customer than give them the same deal as new subscriber,, I told them that, they said that was the rules.. But,I will try again,,,Thanks everyone

Call Dish and tell them what Direct offered you. Chances are Dish will offer you some sort of a discount to keep you as a customer.

Direct TV almost got me to switch. But when the tech came out to the house to make the changeover, I showed him my list of five "must haves" that two different customer service people had assured me were covered.

The tech went over each one. Bottom line, three and a half of the five were not going to happen. I've heard of other people being mislead. It seems Direct will say anything to get a commitment.

But do your own due diligence. Find a Dish and a Direct tech and ask about the quality of Direct's all new equipment.

Dish will lease or sell you a receiver for a Tailgater. If you purchase the receiver you will only be charged for the time you have it activated. You must buy the Tailgater. Setup takes five minutes plus the time to download programming, maybe another 15 minutes. If you are out of your home TV area, a call to Dish will get you the locals for your location.

Maybe not...according to DirecTV (below is lifted from their site), and other web sources:
DISH Network claims they have 200 HD channels, but to get to that number they count part-time, game-only channels and 57 video-on-demand titles that aren't even channels. We're not the only ones to question their count. The industry experts also feel DISH Network is stretching the truth.

At DIRECTV, if a channel is in HD 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, then we count it as an HD channel, just like you would. It's that simple. We offer over 185 - more than any other satellite or cable provider, period.

There are other differences;

More HD channels on Dish.

Unlimited times to change your local channels for your location with Dish.

Monthly pay as you go with Dish. If you are not out and using the service simply let them know and you will not be charged. Let them know when you want to resume service.

You will need new antenna hardware but otherwise there is very little difference between Dish and DirecTV. The services work the same other than having a larger spread between the Dish satellites than is necessary between the DirecTV satellites and some dramatic differences in sports packages.
As to the to base cable services, they are exactly the same so you just need to compare pricing today and how much they will raise your rate once the trial period is over.
One other thought. If you call Dish and have them move your local Network programming to Yuma when you travel you may find that getting DirecTV to do the same thing is quite difficult. Dish allows you to change location at random but DirecTV makes it quite difficult. Otherwise, I see no real difference.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Don't think location makes a difference whether you are in Yuma or anywhere else. Will work the same.

How much savings for the same channels?

Yup, works the same as long as you have the proper receiver and antenna for the service you choose.

We like DishHD and our Tailgater.
