Direct TV DVR

Usually when we go for just a few days, we take our Direct Tv DVR and watch recorded programs in the evening for entertainment, not bothering to set up the satellite antenna. However on our most recent trip when I asked for the "List", it said it was "loading" .... for 30 minutes! Needless to say no recorded shows were loaded. Is this something new since Direct's latest "update"? Once we were home and connected to the satellite, everything worked as usual. Any ideas?

What receiver are you using a power inserter? If so, have you tried it connected and disconnected from the PI? Grabbing at straws here!

It's a Genie 3, HR54-500. Dunno about the power inserter unless that's the black box on the electric cord?

If you're disconnected from the dish you will get the 775 error and the receiver will stop there. You need to keep the dish connected while the receiver is going through the setup. Never mind if it is pointing to anything. Wait until it goes through the entire process and it will start receiving satellite info and immediately give you searching for a satellite. When that happens you can hit the menu button and go to recordings. It will not work without the dish attached and the power inserter on to feed the LNB. Chuck

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

Groan.. I wouldn't either. Chat might be easier but I think they just have sales people on that.

I have never seen this error, but it's been awhile since I booted mine up sans antenna. I sure hope at&t hasn't screwed this up too.

As I recall you have to skip past that message somehow. I just can't remember what. Clear, exit, back, something. Sorry, haven't tried it in awhile. A year or 2 back the DVR's would not let you watch recorded programming if the DVR was powered off and not re-connected to an antenna but a software update fixed that. I hope DTV didn't break it again.

Yeah, I remember that. I was so pleased when they fixed it, and I really hope they haven't "improved" anything lately!

I powered down, disconnected the dish then turned it on again. Let it go through the "receiver self-check", then the Step 1 of 2 "Checking satellite settings". Changed the input to HDMI. I get the screen that says "There's a problem communicating with the satellite dish.(775)" OK I get that, since it's not connected. Then I went to Menu/View Playlist and the progress bar shows up with "please wait" over it, and that's where it stays.

I did go to the Trouble Shooting menu and it does say that we should be able to watch recorded programs from the DVR without the dish. Also did a hard reset with the little red button, same results.

I guess I'm gonna have to break down and make the phone call to DTV, not something I'm looking forward to.

We always have to wait for searching for sat on the menu before we can switch to the menu for the recorded stuff. If you didn't get to that then, as others ask, did you power off and retry. If some questions don't get answered there is no way to answer your questions. Chuck

Maybe there was a pending update to the software that didn't finish downloading or installing. Could also be that they changed the system to phone home on boot up.
