Direct TV (Sat) Question

I believe that DirecTV will change your service address a couple of times a year so you can get local channels, maybe more often if you get the right customer rep on the phone. But they will not change as often as you need as Dish apparently will.

we have Directv and when we travel, we usually will get the locals on OTA TV and use the satellite for other programming. (DH likes History Channel, I like DIY and HGTV, kids like Disney and Nik) We don't watch that much TV while we are in the camper, but it's good to have when we have bad weather or just need some de-stressing time.

So, what I was alluding to, we don't change our address, we just don't pick up local channels when we are outside of a 100 mile circle from our home. That is what we use our antenna for - NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX networks. Most places we go to, we can get these by using the antenna.

The Tailgater will not work with Directv. It is a Dish Network only antenna. They have the Quest, which is Directv only, and the Flex that can be used with either provider.

UPDATE! Thanks for all the prompt responses!! I just spoke to my neighbor and he actually has a King/Flex. He was able to connect to move his receiver to the rv but when connected it directed him to contact "Direct". Upon doing so they informed him that he needed to contact them when he arrived at his new location and they would turn it on for him (at a nominal fee of course). I just don't understand why you should be charged again for a receiver you are already paying a monthly fee for! We have not moved our Dish receiver more than twice so I may be in for a surprise if I do to much moving.

I've moved several receivers between home and the RV over the years. DTV has no idea where the receiver or dish is located. If it's outside of the local area then you won't get the locals.

But I don't use the phone or internet connection so that could be the difference.

I'm guessing that he does not have the receiver or maybe the RV antenna setup correctly. Are they compatible and has he gone through the setup?

They do not need to know anything when I travel I take my DirecTV receiver -----and a "tailgater" antenna ......(actually Vue-Cube)and I set it up and we're done.

now local channels I use the regular antenna for it but I don't need to call them and tell them-- because as far as they're concerned it's still at my house I'm paying the money---- there you go.

Thanks for the new input. I believe that his tv screen prompts him to contact Direct, but not sure. So with the King he should be able to just hook up and go following the instructions?
