Directv - A pleasant experience with their online chat....

We're south for the winter and I was wanting to get our service address changed to get their local channels here in Texas instead of our local channels from St. Louis. I looked at the site and saw no way to do that so I thought I would go to the chat area and ask there what I needed to do. To my surprise the CSR said that she would be happy to change that for me. And she did. It was a remarkable event in these times to get someone that knew what I was talking about and knew how to fix it. Kudos to Directv.

Seems to me I was only able to do this one or two times a year... We found it best to forgo the local DIRECTV broadcast stations and use the OTA BATWING antenna to pick up all the local NATL BROADCAST stations from the local town where ever we ended up at. These are all transmitted in full wide screen digital mode which was much better quality than the standard DirecTV sat signals anyway...

Eventually we just stopped bringing along our SAT TV hookup things from the house and now only use the NATL BROADCAST Stations across the country.. Most we watch is NCIS and WX channels anyway hehe...

  • Roy,

OTA digital better than DTV SD sure but not DTV HD. OTA also starts to become marginal at about 35 miles.

We also like the DVR when we want to watch offline, a consistent channel guide, non real time skipping commercials and other features. But it's not free.
  • DirecTV has gotten a lot better than it once was. Although I've had the service for 9 years, I used to cringe every time I called about anything. You used to get people who could barely speak English, could only read from the script in front of them and never listened to what you said. Lately this is now a pleasant experience. I just had a B-band converter go out. Called and explained that I'd gone through the usual reset and then swapped the converter with another box that had been working to isolate the problem to the questionable B-band. As soon as I said that, the young lady asked for my mailing address and said another B-band would be sent out. No cost, no shipping and I had it in 2 days. On the phone about 5 minutes. As I said, Much improved.
  • I manually change my billing address then call and ask for the seasonal service address change. Then it's sitting right in front of them, never takes more than a minute or two.
