Just about any receiver other than the H25 and the Genie (HR34/44), which are SWM only, for your dome. You have to go WAY back to some really old SD receivers that will not work with the new SWM Trav'ler.

What's he's talking about is called an Offset Feed antenna, where the signal bounces at an angle, so knowing those numbers allows you to get creative when pointing through holes in trees. A standard parabolic, or Prime Focus feed is what you see on almost every other satellite and microwave antenna. But when you offset the feed, it gets everything out of the way and allows for a more efficient antenna because there is nothing between the satellite and the reflector. That's why they can make them so small and still work. A Prime Focus antenna would need to be quite a bit larger for the same gain.

As a matter of perspective, imagine you put a plumb on the face of your antenna and it was exactly straight up and down pointing exactly 90 degrees out or what would be perceived as 0 degrees elevation. With the antenna in that position it would receive a signal from a satellite that was located 24 degrees above the horizon. The elevation markings on the antenna compensate for this entry angle so when they show the antenna elevation as 44 the antenna itself is only tilted back 20 degrees from horizontal.
Some folks trying to point an antenna, set it to 44 and then assume they must be blocked based upon where the antenna is pointing and not where the signal is coming from (again, 24 degrees higher).

I think their discussion relates to the fact that with respect to elevation the dish doesn't actually point to the satellite due to the offset of the LNB from the axis of the dish. However, your previous statement is correct; at any particular location the satellite will be in a particular location at a specific elevation.

They're talking about where the actual signal comes in to the dish. At least that's what I *think* they're talking about.

From my years of experience doing this (in Western states), I've learned that the signal comes in from much higher than you'd expect by just looking at the dish and arm, or the actual elevation number.

My Slimline dish is getting a great signal even though it appears to be blocked by bushes and another RV. Those bushes are a good 12" above the top of my dish, but that's no problem. The RV is off to the right of the line of sight.

Can somebody please explain to me what chiefward and Bill.Satellite are talking about?

What, exactly, are you talking about? I don't understand the question or the answer you gave. What do trees have to do with it? Isn't there only one elevation that can be used at any one location?
