Dish customer question

We have Directv but after wasting days for a scheduled upgrade and many hours on the phone we r thinking of changing. We are full timers and wonder how often Dish will allow you to change the service address so local channels are available.

Our Dish service for both our RV and our upstate NY cottage are month-to-month pay-as-you-go. We change locals as often as daily, and on at least one occasion, changed it twice in one day with no hassles from Dish. We use the chat service and pre-written script that Bill mentioned, and the change nearly always goes quite smoothly. Once in a great while the CSR fails to flag our program guide for the update, but a second 1-2 minute chat has always fixed that. They've also changed our billing address on occasion along with our service address, but that's also easily fixed online with our MyDish.com account.

My Apple TV box is not much larger than a deck of cards. I stream whatever I want using my DISH credentials. Perfect HD "reception" and I don't have to haul/point a DISH? Not sure if the new units support local channels or not; my Apple TV box is several years old, but I still think it is the bomb!

Just a question I do not know the answer to. How does Apple TV work on the road where internet is a problem and the gigs add up fast?

It works great on the road AS LONG AS you have a very large cellular data plan!! You either have to pay to play (satellite) or pay to play (very expensive cellular). It's all about choices and not all choices work for all people.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

We travel winters and move around a lot. Dish has always authorized our mobile reciever within minutes to recieve the local channels for that area. All it takes is a phone call, tell them where you are with which reciever . Left at home recievers still get local channels for the g'kids.
Is this for one account? I thought that DTV switched the account, hence all receivers, but I only have one receiver.

In fact wasn't there discussion of someone with multiple receivers on a single account loaned to relatives being a no no? Maybe multiple locations OK with Dish?

Original poster again. We're not getting the RV plan. This would be the same as in a house. Do they let you change the service address for that too?
Bill.Satellite He might be referring to DNS with his current DTV.

OP Like others we change only the DTV service address and we have one receiver that is moved from the house to RV.

Interesting comments about using a CG site number to avoid conflicts which I've never done. DTV "knows" I'm in a RV and has never questioned the address.

We have had Dish since the mid 90's at home and when we full timed. We now take our dish receiver with us on the road. That gives us all the pre recorded shows and timers we normally have as well. Changing the service area is as mentioned a call or chat away, no limits. The only issue is to remind the person making the change to send you a "bump" to update the receiver, which must be on and hooked up to the proper satellite dish. When returning to home, same process. Make sure you specify service address only, not billing address.

Been all over the Midwest and currently in Nevada and no issues. We've called probably in less than 24 hours with no issues. Like a previous poster mentioned, Check your locals at new location before calling. Some areas out west almost cover the entire state.

That is correct. I get Denver locals in Moab and Santa Fe. In some cases when you get to the fringe areas, the HD will drop and the receiver will switch to the SD signal.

When changing the service address, I use the and have a pre scripted statement written in Word where I change the service address. As stated by others, the locals usually cover a wide area. When moving around AZ in the winter, I leave the service address at the first park stayed at. I simply add a letter to the site number such as 7A to not conflict with someone coming in after me.

There really is no RV plan. There is a pay-as-you-go plan but this can be used by anyone anywhere and is also not an RV plan.
You will be able to change your Service Address (make that clear) and not billing address as often as necessary. Using the Dish Chat function is best and you can have a pre-written script that describes what you want to do and the new address you want to use. It should be a full address including zip code. If it's an RV park then add a unit # as there are often multiple users at that location.
If you are going to be in a location for only a short period of time it might be easier to watch the Network programming using your OTA antenna and everything else via satellite.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

I have been doing it for years with Directv.. no RV plan.. just a home service.

then take receiver with us.. use our own dish antenna.. and call customer service. and ask for change of Service address and NOT Mailing address..

I did it last fall.. from Ohio to MB,SC . then Edisto Beach SC.. then back to Ohio.. in 3 months..

and the change of service is like 5 minutes. but you must press the reset button on the receiver after talking to customer service... each time.
but sometimes the Guide will take 24 hours to update local channels.. they are available in 5 minutes just does not show up for 24 hours.

Have had Dish since 1998, when we went full time we signed an RV waiver. Had East and West coast network feeds until the courts ruled that Dish could not do that. Since that time we have changed service addresses every time we were out of a specific spot beam's service area. We have been in 7 locations within 200 miles of Indianapolis for the past two months and never have changed our service address. In the week or so it looks like we'll be heading to Alabama, I'll get on Dish Chat and change to a "service address" that suits my needs for the longest period of time due to my anticipated travel pattern. I might choose Birmingham or Nashville, since the spot beams overlap where we're heading, not sure yet. This will take me less that 10 minutes to accomplish, quicker than waiting for a voice. The wait time for Chat vs Talk is very small, in my case usually a 2-3 minutes wait or immediate. There have been times I've changed the "service address" nightly due to travel, but I always put the antenna up to see if I have "locals" from my last location. If not I'm head to "Chat"

We've never had any significant DTV upgrade issues, however we've never asked them to do any rig hardware upgrades.

We do local channel changes as required by the spot beam and not usually because we transient into a new town within the beam.
