Dish network and King Dome Satellite

Hi all, I have just spent an hour searching the forums and was unable to find my answer, although I am certain it has been addressed as I have seen it before. I purchased my RV last year and we messed with the dome satellite a couple of times with a dish receiver from the house and never got it working.

This year I plan to camp more and would like to purchase a dedicated receiver to leave in the RV, so there is my question, what receiver do I get? Can I purchase it on line and then have it activated through dish? Or do I actually have to purchase it from dish network?

I will probably have to have my local RV place get it all up and running, no one in this house has any tech saavy at all.

    I just purchased a Winegard Pathway 2x Dish, and a matching VIP 211Z receiver. I ordered both on line, and can activate them without Dish having to come out.

    Assuming you have a dome, it could be setup for DirecTV. Setting it for Dish is generally pretty simple whether you do it yourself or hire someone. I'm just speculating since you don't mention the make and model of the antenna. Until the antenna is set correctly, it won't matter what Dish receiver you try. Chances are that your dealer or a mobile RV tech can do the setup for a minimal charge and your existing receiver will work.

    Since you are already a Dish customer you should check to see if Dish will give you an additional receiver "for your rec. room" at no charge. You can then use that in the RV and be done with it. I would recommend the 211K receiver if you can get one but if not then the 211Z will work OK as well.

    The 211K and Z models are so simple to set up, any one can surely get them working easily. They are available from Amazon or eBay at really good prices.
