Dish Network pay as you go service

Okay, so I have my brand new Winegard SK-1000 TRAV'LER dish installed on my MH and functional so I am ready to get some programming! What I want to go with is Dish Network's pay as you go program because it sounds like it is just what we need. Where is the best place for me to go for that service? From my research it looks like there are several places you can call to enroll in Dish pay as you go but I am confused. Where should I call? Is there anything about pay as you go for Dish that I should be aware of as a brand new user? Thanks in advance for your advice!

My plan was to buy portable equipment for the camper, and then just use it at home. We only watch about 3 shows, but one is cable only. The customer service seems to not understand the question, I was hoping that someone had direct experience.

Maybe I have it backwards though? Perhaps just let them do an install, then just buy the antenna and take the box with me when we travel. Although the antenna I like will not work with the Hopper, which is what they want to install. I see a second choice, I can also add a box, that I purchase, for a few dollars a month to the account. This seems a waste, since no one is at home when we are on the road.

Yes, what you said in bold above -- home install then take receiver with you on the road.

Note that as a new household customer you will have a 2-year contract -- not Pay As You Go.

Bill, interesting to see your recommendations for a portable to Thomas201. I am looking at either the Pathway or the G2. Is there a reason you didn't list it as a possible portable? Cost alone? Any experience you've had with it?
Just curious as to why you didn't mention it.
Thanks.

If you can get the Hopper installed at home they will also install a 2llK (or Z) if you request they do so. This was it's all free and you just take the 211 when you travel. You will have full service at home and the receiver you want when you travel. They will do this all for free. Tell them you want the 211 for use in the RV when you travel, they tend to be very RV friendly.
Even if you have to hang up and call again, it would be worth the effort. If you have the 211 receiver then you can buy the Winegard Pathway or King Dome Tailgator. Both of these are specifically designed for use with the 211. My personal recommendation is the Pathway.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

I am not a current or past customer.

I believe that is for new customers only so if you already have equipment and service this discount would not apply.

Dish is currently running a discounted 1 yr and regular price for the next year service for home install. Any idea if they will extend this pricing for customer supplied equipment? I am currently spending about 2 mo. per year in the rv, so I would like the discount instead of pay as you go, then just switch the equipment from house to rv.

I'm sorry, I meant 211k. Pretty used to automatically typing the 211z 🙂
The 211k will work fine.

I'm pretty sure that I already knew that the 211z would work , my question was about the 211k.

The ViP211z will work just fine with the G2. It actually will work with any of our satellite antennas that are compatible with DISH. You shouldn't have any problems.

The 211Z will do fine with a Tailgater or Pathway but only those specific dome antenna as Dish wrote special software for that setup. Any of the other domes "might" have an issue but my understanding is that they are updating the current receivers being shipped out (at least from Winegard). The 211z has no issues if you connect it to a standard Dish open faced antenna for the initial activation (or if the dealer activates it).

Bill do you know if this is true with the newer G2 antenna and a 211k setup? Currently have the 211k working with the Trav'ler fixed mount, but am looking at a portable G2 system.

Somewhere I found a Dish pay as you go number. 800 472 1039. Haven't gotten my Pathway yet to try it.

Caution: I do not have one but if you buy the 211z, I understand that it will not receive required software update programming (not TV package) through a Tailgator. You would need to connect it to a different kind of dish or take it to a local DISH dealer, before connecting with the Tailgator. Bill Adams would have more on that.

So can all "regular" Dish dealers can do this? Or are only some specially authorized for this program?

They all "can" but most do not as they don't know anything about an RV.

Do they do installs locally?

No, I bought the package from them and they helped me with the set up with Dish. This was very early on in the Pay-As-You-Go era. After you get set up, everything goes through Dish which, as someone posted, can be a source of irritation as the CS people have no idea what the plan is and most have no idea what an RV is.
