A SLIGHT change of subject....
I would not remove the OTA antenna, I'd not do anything odd to it. (Of course I get so much OTA TV thanks to the new DIGITAL sub channels I can't watch it all. so I have to record for the odd occasion where I'm in a poor coverage area like last week, and I still have over 100 hours on the Hard Drives. I'm goign to add another DVR soon (In the mail as I type).
Page 2: ROOFTOP mounted antennas are nice, and handy but they have a major external fault.. The (voice of doom mode) EVIL SIGNAL EATING TREE (/voice of doom mode) if you are parked under a tree NO SIGNAL
I would put in a nice new RG-6 run from the sat receiver to some handy weather protected connection point (Mine is on the brake bell crank bracket) and use a portable antenna which you can set up to XX (the amount of RG-6 you carry) feet away to get out from under the aforementioned evil tree.
On RG-6 Cable. Use a large hose/cable reel with at least a six inch HUB to roll up the cable when traveling.. (Cable specs say no coli smaller than 6"_)
