Dish network question

Here’s the plan. I have a b van with a very limited footprint on my roof.
I’m looking to remove the over the air antenna to make room for the Winegard Pathway x1. Now for the question . How much of a hassle would it be on rare occasionsi to call or go on line daily to change service locations for network programming. Also is Dish ok with this or do they get bent out of shape with frequent changes? Thanks,

I’d say “yes”.

Changing the service address used to be a huge hassle. The CSRs rarely knew what you were talking about and almost never got it right the first time. Things have improved greatly over the last couple years.

It's easy to check and change your billing address on your MyDish account online. I don't know what if anything changed, but for the last couple of dozen service address changes, my billing address has been left alone. Previously, it was about 1 in 4-5 changes that had to be corrected.

which WILL happen but if you establish an online account and pay your bill that way it generally won’t matter if your mailing address changes. you’ll get a small monthly discount for having the online account and paying your bill online. we DO NOT leave our credit card on file for auto pay since we are not full time.

We let them put it on the card all the time since we use Dish at home as well. Carrying the Dish DVR with us is nice since all the pre recorded stuff goes with us as well. Best of all, no extra charge from Dish to do that.

Really good info Solo, I appreciate your input. This is a perfect example of how we can simplify things for each other.

I am in a RV and I have changed locations. Please change my SERVICE address to (zip code of your new location) Please note that my billing address does not change

Here is the URL of their Contact with Chat. I complete the above information along with my Dish Account # and then save it so I can cut and paste the information quickly during the chat session.

I have a Wine guard Traveler. I do it all the time. Sometime i have to pull my smart card and reinsert. I call them, they give me a hit and at times i have to unplug me receiver and re-plug. 15 minuted i'm up and running.

Yes... I keep a set of pre-written text scripts on file for parks we frequently return to, along with a "Fill in the blanks" script for new locations. Having almost everything written out ahead of time saves both time and errors. And as ChinDog said, how often you change locations doesn't matter. I've even changed our location twice in the same day with no problem.

I have always called. And that has never been a problem. But I am curious as to exactly what information you include when you initiate a chat to expedite the process.

I use Dish for my RV and it’s great.... You can go online and add or subtract programs, packages at anytime during the month.. I am not sure it could be any easier......

I agree, keep your dome antenna portable. You'll encounter plenty of instances where the signal is blocked if you have the antenna permanently mounted on the roof.

A SLIGHT change of subject....

I would not remove the OTA antenna, I'd not do anything odd to it. (Of course I get so much OTA TV thanks to the new DIGITAL sub channels I can't watch it all. so I have to record for the odd occasion where I'm in a poor coverage area like last week, and I still have over 100 hours on the Hard Drives. I'm goign to add another DVR soon (In the mail as I type).

Page 2: ROOFTOP mounted antennas are nice, and handy but they have a major external fault.. The (voice of doom mode) EVIL SIGNAL EATING TREE (/voice of doom mode) if you are parked under a tree NO SIGNAL

I would put in a nice new RG-6 run from the sat receiver to some handy weather protected connection point (Mine is on the brake bell crank bracket) and use a portable antenna which you can set up to XX (the amount of RG-6 you carry) feet away to get out from under the aforementioned evil tree.

On RG-6 Cable. Use a large hose/cable reel with at least a six inch HUB to roll up the cable when traveling.. (Cable specs say no coli smaller than 6"_)
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Thanks all for your responses. From your posts it appears this will be a viable option.
I will be going from cable to dish in our home as well so I’ll be using one of the receivers in the RV. Sure dread getting familiar with their DVR, programming their remote where it’ll operate their equipment as well as mine. Part of it I guess.

Be careful about the equipment that's installed in your home if you also plan to use it with a dome in your RV. If they install a Hopper 3 at home you will not be able to install a Wally or 211 receiver that you would want to use in the RV. You won't have "full" DVR capability in the RV as the 211 style receiver is a single tuner receiver to which you will need to add a hard drive. So you can't watch 1 channel while recording another and since Dish uses 3 satellites and your dome has only 1 LNB you can run into issues if you plan to use more than 1 receiver in the RV.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?
