Does Direct TV have a mobile dish?

Here is the deal....I have a B+ Leisure Travel Van, a mountain home in Colorado, and a home base residence in West Texas where I only get over the air free TV. With all the new technology does Dish or Direct TV offer any plans that I might could use in all three places....and is it affordable and how well would it work? At RV parks I've seen some sit beside dishes which seem to be Dish....and am wondering if Direct TV also has something? My dream? That somebody would offer a plan where by I could get satelite TV and possibly Internet at home, at my cabin, and in my RV when I am traveling? What do you think? Is this possible? I would appreciate any thoughts you might have on my dream!

Hank,

Just saying you can use both receivers if desired and have 7 channels. We move our HR44 from house to RV and it's plug and play. It detects and adjusts for the TV's different resolutions.

I haven't been interested in upgrading to the HR54 because neither TV is 4K.

Good to know. But having the HR54 in the house with its 5 channels makes me want to switch from the HR24 to the in the RV. But always an option to use the HR24 if necessary.

The HR24 can be configured for SWM. And it worked great with my HR44 showing all of the HR44 recorded shows.

Sounds like you are good to go. The HR54 is what I use as well and it's great. It will work just fine with the SWM8 setup. You may not need the splitter as the SWM8 switch has 2 outputs so it just depends upon how the coach is wired now.
Enjoy.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

Bill.Satellite,

Our home Genie is an HR54-500. From what I read on the DTV Forum that is NOT the Genie 2. I see there are a lot of complaints about the Genie 2.

The parts I got from DTV are a SWM8R2-03 and the Power Inserter 29V Model PI29R1-03. Also got the 4 Way SWM Splitter. Sounds like we might be ready to install. Thanks for the sanity check.

Be sure it's a SWM8 switch AND you use the PI29 power inserter. Put the switch on the roof for the easiest installation and be sure there is dielectric grease in all connections to coax or the terminators in any unused ports. Terminators must be installed in all unused connections on the SWM8 switch.
Have fun!
You didn't get the Genie 2 did you? I would stick with the HR54 if at all possible as the Genie 2 does not power a TV at all. You have to add clients to even connect to 1 TV.

Thanks to all for the good info in this thread. Saves me posting a new topic. I have an older Winegard Traveler (non-SWM) with older DVR etc. (HR24...). I recently got a "new" system for the house (Genie) on a 2nd DTV account so it is time for the SWM upgrade on the RV. Then I can cancel the old RV account and do the "Genie" shuffle between house and RV.

I have spoken with a knowledgeable local Direct TV guy (independent) about the RV SWM upgrade and also replacing existing cables up top which are 7 years old and starting to corrode. He is mostly a house install guy but when I showed him the SWM diagrams he didn't flinch...fingers crossed.

I'm not aware of any DTV dome for HD reception. Full array dishes on the roof or tripod work great. Also there are reliable reports that DTV no longer installs SD systems (SD TVs work OK but will soon be a footnote in history) and they will not transmit SD after 2019. At that point SD dishes/domes will be history.

KVH Tracvision has one, but it is very expensive.

Not one for an RV that I am aware of. The one I have seen is for boats as it is not only expensive, it's HUGE! It's really a 3 LNB antenna housed inside a dome. Imagine how big that dome must be.
The HD7 is 24" diameter x 27" high, perfect for overpass encounters. Arm wrestling the 1/2" diameter coax should be fun. And only $12,995.

You my friend should read the FAQ on the Direct T V site then tell me about 100%. It talks about multi accounts.

What is the difference in service for mobile vehicles and service for multiple homes?
EmailPrint
Multiple homes require another account if you want service at both homes at the same time. Mobile accounts are not permanent fixtures and may be used part-time, so using one account is acceptable

bgum, while what you posted is factually correct, it has no bearing on this thread. What the OP is wanting to do is have service at his home while he is there, then take that service to his vacation home while he is there, then use it in the RV while he is there. Since he can't be in two places at once, he will only have service at one place at a time. That is perfectly legal.

No one is talking about service at 2 homes or an RV and an home at the same time. You simply have multiple antennas and move the receivers with you as you travel.
It's completely legal AND completely OK with both DISH and DirecTV. That's why you are able to call/text/chat and have them change your service address. If it was illegal they would not do it and tell you that you need a new account. The Billing Address remains the same but only the Service Address changes. It's done everyday all over the Country not only by RVers but folks who spend weekends or months in a cabin in the woods and then time at home.
It's all good.

OH man please give it up bgum. You are confusing trying to put multiple recievers in multiple locations on one account. What the OP is asking and what the rest of us are saying is that using one receiver, one account in multiple locations. There is a world of difference in those two.
