downloading photos on Facebook?

I'm not a Facebook member, nor do i wish to join. A family member sent photos on Facebook to my phone , but it appears I can't download them into the picture gallery on my phone (android). The question is: do I need to be a Facebook member in order to accomplish this?

Yes, it worked this time. The first time I tried, tapping on the photo did nothing. Oh well, all's well that ends well. Thanks for your assistance.

I can't right click on an image with my phone. I can only tap the image, which does nothing. It's not like my PC, which has both left and right click buttons.

So, Facebook declined my request to join, probably because I used an alias. That's OK, I never really wanted to join in the first place.
Now that I can view the photos in my browser, as I described, I'll just leave things the way they are.

Well, I think respondent DFord explained what happened pretty well. Evidently the sender texted me a link, which I needed to finger tap in order to see the photos.
I also discovered a work-around. I merely sent the pictures to a folder in my Brave browser, where they can be easily located as long as I'm on the Internet. It's not the ideal situation, but it will work.
A side benefit would be that I'm not filling my photo gallery on my phone with too many pictures. I'm still waiting for my acceptance on Facebook. When that happens, I'll follow the suggestions mentioned by you other respondents. Thanks to everyone for your assistance. ๐Ÿ™‚

If all you're working with is a link to the pictures, they didn't send the pictures. The actual images can be attached to a text message and that would be easier on you. Either way, tap on the picture and then you can save it to your phone. It will be available in your gallery but you'll need to look to see which album it went into.

Actually, they were sent in a text message, but in order to see the photos I needed to select some text, which apparently led me to the Facebook site. I wish I could be more explicit, but I've
never done this before.
I can't supply the whole text, but it begins, https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?bid= (then a long string of numbers).

I went ahead and proceeded to join Facebook and just waiting for their acceptance. Then I'll learn if that will work. Sorry for the confusion, but I'm also new to working with photos on smart phones.

Tap on the picture in FB. It should display all by itself with a black border. Tap in the upper right hand corner on the 3 little dots. You should see a pop-up menu with the top item saying "save to phone"

At least that's how I do it but I am a member of FB.

Touching the photo does nothing at all. Remember, I'm seeing the photo on my phone, but I'm not actually on the Facebook website, so I guess I may have to join Facebook, using an alias, since I don't really wish to be a part of that social site. I may just try that. Thanks.

Like someone said. What you see is a "Preview" tap on the photo and you should get the full photo then choose "Save to Phone" from the drop down menu.

On my conputer that's a Right click and save image.

I'm not sure. part of the message that came with the photos reads https://facebook.com/photo.php?fbid, and then a bunch of numbers. I don't know if they mean anything, but touching that message brings up the photos. Touching the photos themselves does nothing.

I don't know. Is there a message saying why this can't be done?
