Winegard better pull their heads out of the sand and see what Dish is doing. WA is not even installed by Dish as far south as Pa.Probably farther. All the HD locals are only on EA in Philly. If I remember correctly there are a few people that live north of Philly on the east coast.:)
Even the installer I talked to in SW Fla. said their new installs are EA.

When I worked for Winegard, setting up and EA Trav'ler was not even a thought. I doubt that has changed. The need would be so small I doubt they believe they could find a market. A company like RF Mogul is small enough that they might take a stab at it but it would take a number of people calling them with interest in such a unit.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

The Trav'ler for Dish is also Western Arc only. That's not bad, just important to understand.
It is if you plan to use it in the Northeast. Unless you camp in an open field, there are many places as far south as Pa. that WA roof mount won't work.

I like a previous posters suggestion to the OP for getting the DirecTv Travlr as it can be changed to DISH. A DISH Travlr can't be changed to DirecTV HD.

One day, hopefully soon, Winegard will reprogram the Travlr control box so it works on EA.

Mostly. Right out of the box, a 1000.4 is EA and the 1000.2 is WA.

But both dishes can be converted to the other arc -- so there's no need to buy a 1000.2 and a 1000.4.

Here's a 1000.2 vs 1000.4 comparison.

Not mostly.....Exactly. Conversions are a completely different conversation.

And since the conversion is a simple 2 screw, 2 minute process, it can be a very short conversation at that.

That's kind of true, but if the factory installs a DirecTV version it can easily be converted to Dish. It is only if the factory was dumb enough to install the Dish version that it could not be converted to a DirecTV HD antenna. Unless they don't know what they are doing, ALL OEM's are installing the DirecTV Trav'ler so the end user can make their own choice.

I'm not the OP but am also looking to use DISH. do I have to subscribe to one arc or the other or can I use the eastern arc birds when out east and the western arc birds out west? do I need a different sat dish for each arc or is this just a matter of aiming the dish?

1) NO you do not subscribe to any arcs just to the programming package you want. You can access that programming off either of the arcs.

2) Depends on the equipment, open face antennas (1000.2 or 1000.4) are set up for specific arc configurations. Some automatic dome type antennas can be changed from one arc to the other, but not easily. Some portable automatic antennas like the Winegard Pathway x2 can be switched easily between arc settings.

we're having the Winegard Trav'ler installed at the factory on the new RV. it's automatic in terms of locking onto the sat but it's not an in-motion unit.

Which Trav'ler are you having installed? There are different models for DISH Network or DirecTV. They are not interchangeable.
