Elevation App?

I'm looking for an App that uses (preferably) Google Maps that can show me the elevation of a particular route or highway.

I would like to know in advance what route would have the least amount of climb.

The App is for Android mobile devices not desktop, I believe there is something for the desktop version.

Thanks in advance.

Ron W.

On edit, I do have the truckers book that shows tunel heights, major slope changes etc. But an App would be best.

Reminds me of a altitude request years ago for somebody wanting to travel up 395 on the east side of the Sierra Nevada. They were traveling with a family member having a health issue and had to stay below a certain altitude. Whether it was COPD or emphysema or whatever I don't know but an altitude app for them sure would have been handy for traveling out west. And I did wonder why oxygen would not have been their solution.

Op back,

Found this App

http://www.doogal.co.uk/RouteElevation.php

Designed for the UK but will work for US, just slide over the Atlantic B-)

Tried going from Jackson Hole to Idaho over the Teton Pass and it worked like a charm.

That's exactly what I would like but on an Android tablet or phone.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

That's what I thought as well but the website says it comes as an exe and will only install on a Windows machine. It specifically states it won't work on tablets and phones.

I wonder if one could install the ebook on a Windows machine and then find and copy the actual ebook to a phone or tablet and use with an ebook reader.

Only thing I'm aware of that's similar (but it's not an app and only installable on a Windows computer) is the Mountain Directory ebooks.

Op back, yes, that's a good point, its not the starting and ending elevation that's important its the grade.

So the App I'm looking for should show grade or a chart of elevation changes.

thanks

Sounds to me like the original poster is really more interested in Grade information than actual elevation information ( and there are a lot of elevation apps available ). I like AllStays Camp & RV app which has a huge amount of selectable filters and choices available. The map readily shows highway grades on the map routes .... which I believe rely on Google Maps for the basis. It takes some practice to learn to use all the filtering available, but sure is worth it for one all in one app for RVing needs.

I'm not sure if the android app will do it but regular PC based Google Earth will show you the elevation of a route.

Just right click on the route and it will offer an elevation profile. I wouldn't trust it for survey purposes but good enough to get an idea of the graedes and elevation.

Look for Google Earth in the app store.
Once loaded go to settings and fix it how you want.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.earth&hl=en

I use it on iPad and it shows elevation.
You must be online to use it though.

CORRECTION

It only indicates how high off the road you are viewing from.
Tip off was when it told me my elevation was 28 miles, useless really.
