General Motors MyLink/GPS POI downloads

When I ordered my new truck late last year I bit the bullet and got the expensive Navigation option. Thinking it should be easy to download my personal POI's, which it is easy but for some reason only a few will download. The CSV. file I download from a USB drive will only download one of eight of my POI's. I have created them in three different text editors including the suggested program by the POI Factory, ExtraPOI Editor, nothing works. I downloaded from POI Factory the file for interstate rest areas and all those download properly into my GPS.
Has anyone else with a General Motors OEM navigation system had this problem? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
  • Cv file
    Comma delimited
A comma between entries, no spaces at front of entry
    So it looks like this
Xxx,they, hhhh (whatever the data is supposed to be)

I've had experience with cv files for cellphones and mobile data applications, they have a tendency to be very touchy
Each field has to contain an entry, no blank fields, in any entry or it messes up
If you have a POI entry that has a blank field that might cause your problem

It has already downloaded some POI's from a USB but several will not download. The system certainly supports downloading personal POI's and has specific instructions on how to do it. Some unknown reason it will not download all of them.

NOW I remember doing this with a Garmin and an online site with a utility for creating the file.

The problem was and IS.....that if the file contains ANY kind of little error on one line, the loading STOPS at that point.
Alas, it doesn't give any failure message.
About all you can do is try to find the first line in the file that did NOT load and give it special scrutiny.....including any "trash" at the end of the previous line that did load.
  • my suggestion is, open their file that works, and compare the format to your file, some it's different, the delimiter character between points maybe

Have you verified that the POIs that did load are located correctly on the maps in the GPS? Some GPS units require the POI's to be Lat-Long-Name and others require Long-Lat-Name so a POI that doesn't make logical sense to the GPS may get ignored. I ran into this trying to convert my Garmin POIs so they'd work in a TomTom.

I would be surprised if their system really supports this kind of download. IF they claim that it does.....then you are going to have to badger GM customer service until they put you in touch with someone who can help......or actually admit that it does not work.

My thought is that you can "tag" items that are already IN their POI list to copy them to a "personal" list.....but that's just a guess.

Now you know why factory navigation is a poor choice.
