Goodby Google Chrome (a rant)

What a pain.
I've been a user from day one. My needs are few, I was happy with it so why change.

Almost everywhere I go that needs a password is acting up, from my provider to my bank.

Google has become so an*l on security they are actually crippling the app. Anything that smells of a popup stops it cold. There must be a workaround but who cares it will only be something else tomorrow.

I've been at this for years so please hold off on browser suggestions, it's all been taken care of.

I'm curious. Any features lost, or any particular tasks or apps that are more difficult now than before?

The upcoming Chrome based Edge may take care of that for you.

Microsoft is rebuilding its Edge browser on Chrome

Yes, I heard about that, Dutch. Thanks for the reminder.

Me too. I hate all that Google is but Firefox has gotten worse and worse.

No issue for many years with Fox, or now with Chrome?

'Fox is customizable enough, when it comes to cookies and other security things. Also, accepts all good adblockers by extension, like UB or Badger. I don't see myself switching from Fox anytime soon, no reasons so far.

This is - on PC. Phone apps are different creatures, limited customization and not enough transparency in what it's doing behind the scenes.

Oh, you're talking about a phone. I don't have any new problems with chrome on my PC.

I ordered my first iThing today - a new iPhone to replace my Android phone. There will be a learning curve, but I'm divesting myself, albeit slowly, from all things Google.

My latest frustration is yet another Nest outage (Google-owned company). Security cameras are useless if you can't see what they see.

Using the latest version of Chrome now and have been using it on two computers plus my smartphone for years. I never have any issues or problems other than occasionally needing to disable the pop-up blocker on a few sites. Chuck

Thanks for the video Chris.
That is a very scary eye opener.

We use chrome on two PCs (one PC being a laptop with dual boot to Windows 10 and Zorin OS, the other a desktop with Win 10), two tablets, two phones, and a Chromebook and no problems with Chrome.

I did have a problem with Gmail opening slowly this week and it turned out to be a wi-fi issue with competing access points in our condo and changing wi-fi channel fixed it.

Whatever browser you use, many things can cause issues on your interface (browser) but that does not necessarily mean the browser is at fault, that it is just where you see the impact.

Clearing the browser cache occasionally is a good idea but clearing cookies will clean out a lot of saved items like saved login parameters for your accounts. That may not be what you want.

Are Google apps problem free. No, but they are good and the price is right. I find changes just as disconcerting as anyone, but I usually see the point and am fine with changes after the initial confusion. If you don't like change, one might consider being a hermit.

I’ve had issues with Google more than Chrome, like others I’ve had security alerts from my IP address , also some of my older iOS devices can no longer access google drive or gmail.

On the other hand, I’m loving my chromebook, painless automatic updates that don’t break anything (so far ??).
