I agree, copper is always better, for all kinds of reasons.

BTW, got home, hooked up CC to big screen. PIA and a real POS. I just can't seem to see any utility in it for me. Just too many hard-wired solutions that work way better. But I'll keep trying. After all, have 11 bucks at stake here.

sorry i don't have 'chrome cast'

i do have netflix, amazon prime instant video, and rebox streaming

all work with my laptop using my cellphone as a hotspot, i also have a Sony media player that uses the same wifi for netflix and amazon

it has its own remote

the chrome cast did NOT interest me, because i had to use a pc or android device to be the controller
the Sony, the laptop, and the digtal PVR, all connect via HDMI as does the DVD player

i understand having TOO MANY hdmi cables, but for me that is the better option

Got one specifically for RV. Thought could stream from 4G phone to it. Can't do it as CC and phone must be on same Wi-Fi network. Phone can't do both Wi-Fi and 4G data at same time. I can do Hotspot and connect Tablet to it and CC. A pain. Easier to just use HDMI cable. Or, just use Roku connected to Hotspot. CC, for me, is a bust. I did get three months free Netflix, so only out 11 bucks. I may find a use for it at home.

You will get little reception from normal campground wifi. You will reach throttling limit in minutes. Most campgrounds do not have great 4g coverage, and there is the data overage if you do not have unlimited data. Sprint offers unlimited data, but finding good coverage is hard.

This about sums it up. You'll blow through your data limits in a heartbeat.

BTW, I have Chromecast set up on my home big screen and so far have been under-impressed. It works, but I find it's mostly one of those things that falls into the gadget category (so far anyway).

Here at the house I use my M90 Laptop Computer setup which has two 24-inch monitor screens to watch streaming video from any number of on-line sources MOPVIDEO - CBS TV SHOWS - WATCH-TV SERIES etc... On FRIDAY NIGHTS I like to watch the GOLD RUSH on Discover Channel but this is also at the same time CBS is running Hawaii 5-0 and BLUEBLOOD.. I watch the GOLD RUSH then Sat morning I downstream the latest TV SHOWs 5-0 and BLUE BLOOD. The quality could be better if my LAPTOP was connected to the VIZIO HDMI input I guess... Would this GOOGLE CHROMECAST unit help me here... Probably would be cheaper to just get the proper HDMI cable to go between the DELL M90 DOcking Station and the HDMI video input on the VIZIO TV but I have run out of ports on the docking station to do this...

Since I carry all of this on trips with my OFF-ROAD POPUP setup I can do the same thing back off the power grid somewhere. All I need is an internet connection.

Does The GOOGLE CHROMECAST require a monthly fee to use it or is the fee associated with the downstream method you use to capture the TV VIDEO downstreams... ??? i.e. I want to replace my HDMI cable connection to the VIZIO TV input with WIFI using the GOOGLE CHROMECAST device ???

Also wondering if the WIFI connections for the GOOGLE CHROMECAST interferes with the normal WIFI connection signals my cable router uses to connect to all of my devices here.

For $35 this would be a great standalone WIFI input connection for my house VIZIO TV video setup.

It depends on how you plan to use it as there is a gotcha in at least one scenario.

I have an Android phone that I use as a wifi hotspot in the RV for my internet. Since the phone can't be connected simultaneously to both cellular data and wifi, I can't use it as the controller for the Chromecast if I am using it as my internet connection since the controller needs to connect via wifi. It's not a problem for me as I can still use the phone as the internet connection but need to use another device, such as a tablet or laptop, as the controller.

I doubt the Chromecast would work well using campground wifi (I've never tried) so you will need your own internet connection and plenty of data.

It will work great if you want to pay the overage on your data plan!

Haven't got it in yet, but should work great with my 4G clear internet.
