I had problems with my google and got rid of it since then I have been using firefox. what a sad experience. I finally got google to download again and am so glad to have it back. I went into the control panel and deleted firefox but I would like to know if there is any thing else I need to do. I have heard that firefox is loaded with malware so do I have to do any thing to protect my computer? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
I think you mean you had Chrome as a browser, right? Google is the company & search engine, Chrome is their browser.
Firefox is not loaded with malware, I use it all the time with no malware issues. It does have some problems working correctly with Adobe Flash, which is very annoying and causes it to crash. That problem has moved me to Chrome part of the time.
I use the free version of Avast anti-virus. Works fine.
Another good software is called malwarebytes, free at malwarebytes.com. Run it about once a week. It's kind of a supplement to Avast, they work a little differently but are a good pair.
The MOST important thing is to exercise some common sense---PAY attention to what you are clicking on. Avoid downloading from random sites, don't click on pop-ups or ads. Stay away from any kind of site that operates in a non-ethical manner--pirated downloads, porn, pyramid schemes, ads with ridiculous claims, celebrity scandal sites, etc. They are very common sources of malware.
