GPS-Garmin RV 760 vs Good Sam ND 7725

Hi all,

I am in the market for a GPS for my motorhome. I see that the Garmin does not have propane for one of the parameters and the Good Sam does. I have propane and for those who also have are you finding the Good Sam gps a better choice?

Thanks,

Stuart

Like I said many time, I would think they have to have an alternate route posted before the tunnel.

in light of what 1775 sez, aren't propane forbidden areas fairly well know, tunnels, etc.? I think stumbling across a different type of propane restricted area would be far less likely than running into a too low bridge?

The lack of routing for propane restrictions is a big problem for the Garmin RV 760. If you are traveling with propane on board it will route you on roads, bridges, and tunnels that prohibit propane and at the bridge or tunnel toll you will be stopped.

The Rand McNally RVND 7725 will route you around these restrictions as it has a setting to tell it you are carrying propane.

Now - we bought the Rand McN and the routing was terrible - and it routed us onto a road with a height restriction of 7'10" with the unit set to avoid ten feet or lower overpasses. This was dangerous and the unit was returned for this reason. Rand McN says they are fixing this with an update but I have no idea if they have and I would not buy another until I can test a unit with a known route to see if it goes the correct way. Garmin is good when it comes to routing - though all GPS units have their routing problems. But with an RV specific GPS it better avoid what needs to be avoided.

I looked at both, read lots of reviews and bought the Garmin. I think it is a toss up.

Every GPS can lead you astry
I've read (I still researching) that the Garmin has issues with propane "safe" roads, but I wondered if that person didn't know how to configure the GPS
I like the campground directory that Rand uses vrs Garmin
Early model Rand's (the 7700) had issues with then freezing or just dying. This is supposed to be fixed in the 7725
I tend to like Garmin GPSs the most

Not much help am I?

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

Hi bumpyroad,

I may have been confusing but I was more interested in restrictions for propane, not where to get propane.

After reading the reviews at Amazon and comments here. I went with a Garmin RV 760. So far I feel I made a good decision. Good luck.

I think identifying propane dealers would be way down on my list when I bought my new Garmin. every campground, google it, etc.
