How do I keep my old land line phone number?

I know this is not RV related, but maybe someone will know the answer. We have sold our house and will be moving out of the area. We have Time Warner Cable for TV, Internet, and phone. Time Warner is not available in the area we are moving to. I would like to keep our original telephone number that we have had for 30 years. I’ve seen ads for Magic Jack and other devices that claim you can keep your phone number but I don’t know how this works. Anyone have advice?

The good thing about transferring (port) your current number to Google Voice is
that you can set Google Voice up to forward calls made to the old number, to your new number or cell phone.

That way everyone that has your old number just calls it like they always do, and it automatically rings on your new phone or cell phone

A lot of folks aren't aware of the benefits of a Google Voice number and the fact that it's free, which is kind of hard to believe. You can do a whole lot of tricky things with one......

20 dollars a month for Verizon home phone connect. Verizon can transfer your number for you. You can keep your same area code too.

Only in the same area.

Work around:
Have your "home" phone number transferred to a cell service BEFORE you leave the area.
That can even be a new number for your existing cell service.
Then you can take it with you wherever you go.

Caution: Be aware that the long distance billing will still happen to and from the area where the number "belongs". That usually isn't a problem but in some odd circumstances it can be.

Make sure the cell company doesn't charge "roaming charges" for foreign numbers in the area that you are moving to. That also doesn't happen very often.

Google Voice will let you port your current number over for a small charge. Of course it is VOIP but it will work everywhere you have internet coverage.

I thought when I retired my Hobby would be RVing.
I was wrong, my Hobby apparently is Finding and stopping leaks.

Vonage, Magic Jack, and Ooma all work with broadband internet, and will let you keep your number where ever you are. You can also port it to your cell phone- my Sister still has her Baton Rouge cell phone after moving to Asheville.

Vonage - (voice over IP)

You can transfer your old number PLUS wherever you are, as long as you have internet, you have your phone with you.

You can also have all of your calls forwarded to your cellphone as well.

We got a device called "Home Phone Connect" from Verizon to replace our landline and then had our landline number transferred to it. It's actually a cellular device that you can plug a regular landline phone into. People that call can't tell that it's not our old landline.

We recently moved to a completely different area code and just moved the device with us. Plugged it in at the new place and it worked without needing to do a thing.

We just asked our cell phone carrier to port over our home phone number to our cell phone. Of course that means you lose your current cell phone number.

majic jack is VOIP
internet phone
once you get your number transferred ( do this BEFORE YOU MOVE )
it will stay even if you move
with VOIP you could move to another state, it would still be the same number

but you must have internet service at your new residence for the majic jack to work
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

Can you have your land line number moved to a cell phone?

If you're moving to a different area code I don't see how it's possible.
