Yes, I use shorter routes putting towns that I know are one the way I want to go. Then add another town to routes,etc until you reach destination.
There is a problem with this method.
The GPS will route you what is considered the downtown area and not the intersection you might need for the highway change.
Actually it depends on the GPS. Some route you to town center and others route you to city limits when navigating between towns. That's one of the differences I found between Tom-Tom and Garmin. I don't know about Magellan.
