I could be wrong but if you plan to use your IPad as a GPS you will Ned the premium pad version which is a 3 or 4 G units. That being said there is a monthly data fee and the unit costs more.phone are used because they are 3 and 4 g and can access the Internet from anywhere there is a signal. Buying a new GPS would be cheaper that the IPad route. Smart phone would be a different issue.
