Just started full timing and wife and I are being eaten up by the monthly costs of our internet service. I know not to use our service if wifi is available thru campgrounds but we are also reluctant to us unprotected internet Wifi. Our service is with Verizon and we have their system called MiFi (portable unit but I thought there might be a better system I could use or install on our MH with would ultimately cost us less over a period of time.Appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

verizon has a new $70 per/month pre-paid plan ($65 if you do paperless billing) with true, unlimited 4g data. put your mifi (Jetpack) on that plan and you can connect up to 15-devices including computers. if your jetpack is on contract you can still move it to the pre-paid plan but you might have a termination fee. no contract, stop (and re-start if the plan is still offered) anytime but if you stop in the middle of your month there is no credit for the unused portion. vzw says no planned throttlng but advises that slowdowns can occur because of network traffic. so far we’ve not experienced that. we kept our phones and tablet on their 2gb data plan and moved our jetpack to the pre-paid plan saving us $$$ while we’re on the road. btw, your 30-day service month starts on the day you sign up. it’s not a calendar month.

With two phones (3GB/month of data each) on the plan, and auto-pay, the unlimited data JetPack ends up costing us $50/month. It's been great.Rob

Careful with "unlimited" data plans. The fine print usually says that beyond a certain amount of usage speeds are throttled down or costs occur. Their definition of unlimited means more about unlimited data sharing across all your lines - not truly unlimited consumption. Try hitting 10-15G a month and see if they don't slow your speed or hit you with overages. A plan you pick really depends on your data consumption. Are you streaming movies or just browsing and checking email? Does it makes sense to pay for an unlimited plan if you are only using a few gig/month? Verizon has the best nationwide coverage. We used to have a mifi jetpack and I think I was on their highest data usage plan. working remote I still usually stayed under, but we never streamed movies. In a few years we plan on full timing and I will still work remote, so I will face this challenge as well. For sure I would need unbridled and truly unlimited data. I expect I will pay dearly for it. I can tell you that CG wifi's rarely worked and when they did it was so slow it wasn't worth messing with. CG's won't let you stream on their wifi either, enough to check email is about it.

We've been using Verizon mifi for 5 years or more with a pay as you go plan. Runs down, just go buy a refill card somewhere.

But, we discovered we both spent waaay too much time on the internet. So last year we rarely took the laptop with us. Instead we walked the dog more, did crossword puzzles, read books and did other things instead. Hard at first, but after a while, didn't really miss the internet that much and actually had more fun together. The internet was still there waiting for us when we got home.

Device agnosticism is the capacity of a computing component to work with various systems without requiring any special adaptations. The term can apply to either hardware or software. In an IT context, agnosticism refers to anything that is designed to be compatible across most common systems.

I wrote these two post on a different form 9/27/15

If you have AT&T service in your area look on e-Bay for "AT&T unlimited sim card" or send me a PM and I'll send you the sellers information. The cost from him was around $35 and the AT$T monthly charge is $35 + tax. He sets up the account then you log into it and set your own information, plan and credit card.

I bought a Netgear 815S hotspot, AT&T branded, and a Netgear antenna, from Amazon on the Warehouse Deals for about $100 total, both used.

The DW was extremely hesitant about getting the sim and plan as I am sure it is in the gray legal area. We finally decided that if it got cut off the amount lost wouldn't break the piggy bank.

I wrote this about 10/26/18

Used about 160 gigs for the month. We had some slowdowns but I felt it was more to weak signal. We could sorta test by hotspoting our iPhone's to our ATT account with about the same results.

The crazy thing is even though there is a credit card on file at 2359:59 on the 30th day the connection dropped. I Hotspotted the phone, logged on to the ATT site and had to do the dance for the plan and security code for the CC. Had connection promptly.

I said before that I felt the seller was a little misleading about the info. The $29.95 plan is now $35 including taxes. But I had read something about ATT upping all the unlimited plans by $5 so it wasn't a deal breaker. But five bucks is a Starbucks-almost!

The Netgear 815S hot spot is simple to set up, pretty much P&P. I don't know if the external antenna Netgear 6000450 really does any good but both were used off of Amazon under $100 for both and $35 to the seller of the card so I'm not out a lot of cash.

Just completed kicking the kids off my cell plan. Had a old ATT plan with 20 gig/month. Shouldn't need that much data now along with the streaming plan now. The DW is retired, gotta watch the outgo more closely. Am going to miss her phone reimbursement from the company though!

As of right now we have been out 5 days and used about 80 gigs. Got the standard notice several days ago that I have reached the 22 gigs limit and might be prioritized due to tower congestion. Everything running full bore.

Got a notice the other day that AT&T is raising rate another $5/month.

OTR Mobile is an AT&T MVNO. If our current AT&T $20/mo unlimited no throttling 4G/LTE hotspot data plan goes away for some reason, I'll give them a closer look. We also have Verizon's prepaid $65/mo (w/autopay) unlimited no throttling 4G/LTE hotspot data plan, and we've yet to land anywhere that one service or the other didn't work well.

T-Mobil uses an Alcatel device for a dedicated hotspot solution. The plan is by the GB. $15=2GB $30=6GB $45=10GB $60=14GB $75=18GB $90=22GB
