Iphones --- Exchanging Cartoons?

We are thinking of going to Iphones after years of resisting.

My wife used to have several friends who exchanged cartoons, etc with her regularly --- you know like Maxine cartoons. As the friends switched to Iphones, they stopped sending cartoons. Now, all her friends are on Iphones. My question --- do you guys exchange cartoons and such on the Iphones, or did you just quit after quitting the PC's?
  • Did she ask her friends why they changed their behavior? Maybe what they were all doing isn't available in a iOS app, or maybe they find it clunky to do? ?You need to find that out first before making a decision.

To 8.1's point, a smartphone or a tablet is not a PC replacement. And extension of a PC perhaps, but not a replacement. In other words smartphones and tablets still are not as powerful or able to as much as a PC.

Do you send/read emails on the Iphone? That's my wife's favorite activity when we are on a RV trip. Excuse the ignorance, I know the Iphone is basically a small laptop, but our friends seem to have changed behavior completely when going from PC's to Iphones.

An iPhone is not basically a small laptop. My 6.44" Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone is much larger than even the 5.5" iPhone 6s Plus but is tiny compared to my 13.3" MacBook Air or 18.4" Toshiba laptop. A smartphone is not a PC replacement IMHO.
  • I have my Iphone on a Straight talk unlimited plan with 5 gigs of data for 45 a month. Use it for email and some web searches and never use the 5 gigs
  • Those type of cartoons are usually shared on Facebook. Sharing them on the Iphone will just eat up your storage space.

Just create a facebook page. Friends can upload to DW facebook and you can check on line from the iphone to see them. I'm not really FB savy but I think you can link it where an alert comes to the phone when someone has posted one.

I DO know that you should set your settings to ONLY friends that you approve. Especially if you are using the phone data to view it.
  • Like others I use my iPhone 6 Plus for everything. Very easy to forward new articles, cartons, emails, et al. I will revert to my laptop for times when I want to get a good look at something, or write a letter or work on a spreadsheet. Even the iPhone 6 Plus screen is too small for somethings.
  • Behavior changes are due to increased difficulty typing on a iphone instead of a real keyboard. My DW is and excellent typist, with remarkable speed and accuracy. But she cannot type on a small keyboard because she does not know where the letters are located. Her hands and reflexes know, but she cannot look and find the letters.

  • Depends on how much you have to pay for data service. At home, on a fast cable service and my own wifi, no problem. On the road, paying wireless data rates, no way! Stop at McD's occasionally and download everything.
