Consult your owner's manual dvd. maybe the hotspot is allowed to stay on even with the key off, but I doubt it.

In my humble opinion, as much as FCA charges for the hotspot service, you're better off going with Sprint directly and getting a self contained MiFi, or any other major cellular provider really.

  • In 2011 I had xm, calling, bt streaming, ipod control and audio/video playback (dvd, etc). My 2013 eliminated dvd playback but added navigation and all the uconnect access and xm travellink stuff
  • When did U connect become more than a hands free phone connection system?
  • I use most of the free features, I do not subscribe to any of the pay features.

    Freebies I use:
    Hands free calling
    BT Streaming from phone
    USB iPod
Navigation (especially handy with voice command)
    uConnect Access Pandora app

Stuff that was fun during the free trial but I didn't renew:

XM Radio - lots of stations, didn't work in the Yukon and much of Alaska
XM Travel Link - gas station locations and prices, real-time weather
Yelp Restaurant search - have this for free on the phone

Stuff I never used, despite free trial:

uConnect WiFi Hotspot - FCA likes Sprint, but Sprint is a terrible wireless carrier, their coverage sucks at least in the places I visit. I use my Verizon hotspot for Internet.
  • I use mine all the time for hands free phone calls. I also use the rest of the system for music. When I play a CD it downloads to the hard drive and then no more CDs laying around the truck.
  • uConnect is an entertainment and information system offering a large number of features. are you asking about any feature in particular?

I'm not sure what features of the truck's entertainment system you would plan to use while inside your camper. I guess if it's a truck camper, the audio / video portions might work - you could have an aftermarket vendor connect your TC's television to the system as a "rear seat display". In that case, yes you will have to leave the truck on in accessory mode for the system to work.
