Is there a domed-style Sat Antenna to receive DirecTV HDTV?

We had a Winegard Travler (dish-shaped) on our motorhome and it worked great for our DIrecTV HDTV reception.

As we transition to an Airstream trailer, we would prefer to go with a lower-profile, domed-style sat antenna. What is the best domed-sat antenna for DirecTV and is there one that can receive HDTV signals?

As an alternative, if we were to switch to DISH, is there a domed sat antenna that can receive HDTV signals on the DISH network?

Thanks for your help.
  • What Dish receiver do you have? I am guessing Hopper but would be interested to know if that works with anything else.

I wouldn't switch to Dish even for HD on an automatic dish or dome. I full time and DNS works so good with my DVR. I set my network programs to record and every time I move and setup my programs record with nothing else to do since the channel numbers don't change.

We use the Dish PASS setup to record the network shows on the locals no matter what channel they're on. We prefer watching the local news and weather where we are rather than where we aren't. :)
  • Thanks for the help. Will pass on the dome antennas.

We will go with a Winegard Travler again and stick with DirecTV HD.

I use a Slimline dish on a tripod from tv4rv.com. Works great.

First, NO DOME is going to have a lower profile than a Trav'ler. The Trav'ler is less than 10" high when stowed and the smallest dome is at least 12" high with most being 15". You can move to DISH and receive HD with a dome but you will be stuck using only 1 single tuner receiver if you want to ensure you can watch/record whatever you want whenever you want.

Look for my Antenna 101 posts

The answer is NO.. no Dome does DirecHDTV

Domes do DircTV but not HD.

Domes can also do Dishnetwork HD but...there are possible issues My other posts go into detail)
  • No
    Yes
Instead of an inefficient dome, why not a real dish like the Winegard Trav'ler?
