I too use the Verizon MIFI plan from many years and only have 3GB dataplan available. We have to watch our Ps and Qs to make it to the next month just checking emails, checking in with the kids, paying bills, and some limited surfing the internet. We are grandfathered in at $27 amonth with this plan until 2036 verizon tells us...

We love the idea of the MIFI unit which is stand alone and will allow up to 5 WIFI enabled units at the same time. this does not tie up our cell phone accounts at all. We certainly love having our own secure and safe WIFI HOTSPOT with us where ever we go using the VERIZON network.

I'm thinking of going to the Millenicom Net that offers 20GB data plan for $60-$70 a month. This would open the doors up to us for down streaming TV stations and the such.

We currently get our fill of HDTV when camping off the power grid using our BATWING antenna setup from the local towns using the national Broadcast channels but sometime we would like to pick up some cable channels.

Thank you for the responses ... will have to take a few days to think about this and maybe wait until we get back to our home base as the Best Buy site says we can "replace" our old with a new Jetpack ... one reason I prefer 'face to face with contract encounters' rather than over the web.

I had the same concerns about FB and found a possible solution.

Although we are still under 7 more months of ATT I have both the ATT sierra and Verizon jetpack. The Verizon jetpack seem to be far superior for security than my ATT sierra unit. Never compared it to Melinacom. We try not to do facebook & videos on the road. Although the internet is addictive we like to stick to emails and banking on the road.

If you view pages with images or videos, you will likely find you use more data on faster connections. The reason is more images or portions of the videos will download before you view them. With the older 3G technology many pages would still be downloading data when you quit the page.

With the faster 4G technology far more data will be downloaded during the same time. It won't make much of a difference if you are downloading the entire data (such as a movie), but sites that download data in the background (such as Facebook) will use more.

We like you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan with Verizon and a MiFi 2200 which is 3g. I have read that you may be able to keep your grandfathered unlimited data plan and upgrade to 4g if you out right purchase a new 4g MiFi. Anyone else heard ofndoing this. I don't want to give up our unlimited data plan we use way to much data.

Any picture, video, Facebook game, will still use the same amount of data
The file just down loads at a different speed,
In use it becomes easier to use more data because webpages load faster Skype calls function better, video can be viewed at higher quality

It seems to be pretty common when switching from 3G to 4G to see your overall usage go up not down. When data downloads faster, you have more time to download more data.
