BluStem

Went and moved my SIM from my Mobley to my Unite and get a message that the SIM is PIN locked. Had a notice to enter a PIN.
The end of SIM swapping?
I never had this before, it just worked.

I was thinking of turning on SIM security on my Unite, changing the PIN from the default, then turning SIM security off so I wouldn't need to enter the PIN every time it turns on. Anyone done this?

they have NOT been
but different Customer Service Reps "CSR" might have have their own ideas
or
ATT has changed the procedure

the old 'Mantra' for cable service, Satellite service and cell service

hang up and try again
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I just called the 800 number and was given the 3rd degree about what kind of device was the sim in, what was the error code, what device is it in now, what is the password, etc. Are they on to this procedure?

Keep in mind, after you create the custom PIN, you'll need to make sure the SIM is unlocked prior to putting it into the Mobley. Or else the Mobley will not provide internet access until you log into the Mobley using the Wifi Manager and manually enter the PIN. That's a pain and not worth it. I assume if the M1 has the option to lock the SIM it should have the option to unlock it as well.

currently the thread is about 14 pages, SIM lock topic starts about here (page7)

Thanks for this. Just called in and got both within 2 minutes. I'll test out in a bit.

Update: I put a Mobley 1.0.3 locked SIM into an old ATT GoPhone Lumia Windows phone and set the PIN using the PUK after 3 failed tries. Went to the SIM Lock settings and disabled the PIN. Put it into a Velocity that was asking for a PIN before and it fired right up without one. Now to see if the Mobleys will re-lock. At least we do have a way to get around the lock, if needed.

ALL att sims come with a default SIM PIN of "1111"
the software up date uses this to lock the change the PIN and lock the SIM

I actually didn't have any hold time. I called 1 (800) 331-0500. When the automated voice came on and asked what it could help me with, I said, "Get a PUK code." The voice said, I can help you with a SIM card, please hold. And it transferred me to the rep who gave me the codes.

you do not have to have the Mobley turned on/powered up
the SIM does not have to be in the MObley

You do need the phone number and account info for your Mobley

once you have the PUK, Pin Unlock Key

there are procedures to follow to unlock and protect your SIM
slightly different IF your Sim is not in the mobley and not locked

for locked sims
insert into an UNlocked att compatible phone
enter any random wrong PIN code 3 or 4 tries
NO more
it should ask you for a PUK to let you set a NEW PIN
use that menu to enter your PUK you got from ATT
set a new PIN of your choice for accessing the SIM
you can now remove the SIM and put in any device and use that new PIN you created for device access

IF your SIM is not in the MObley and NOT locked
you do not need the PUK
put the SIM in the ATT unlocked phone and create the SIM lock (your code choice}
goto the SIM mneu and enter the default PIN '1111'
follow the menu prompts and enter a NEW PIN of your choice
so that the SIM has a new PIN code
you can now safely use it in any device

That is for unlocking a device to use on another carrier. Won't work for a Sim.

i found this on howardforums.com

don't know if it will help you, but it is worth checking

When I log in to my AT&T account (I only have the Mobley with them) and click on manage my device and features it says: "My current features:
You currently don't have any features on your account"

and it says this:

"See device options
Upgrade device See optionrightArrow
Suspend device See optionrightArrow

Unlock a device See optionrightArrow

Manage data See optionrightArrow
Update caller ID info See optionrightArrow
See accessories See optionrightArrow
Manage Sponsored Data"

i do not know if unlock device will unlock the SIM or have No effect on the SIM

if your SIM gets screwed you can goto ATT store and get a NEW sim assigned to your mobley
then stick in the unite
I can explain it to you.

Now know that the update was more than a menu change.

The new Mobley update has been reported to be locking the SIM so it can't be used in another device. AT&T's way of controlling unlimited plan usage.

Did the Unite ever work or did you just buy it?

Yes it has worked no problem all summer. I do put it back in the Mobley for trips with the grandchildren.

The Unite now reports 3/5 attempts. That's just from booting it with the SIM installed. I never even entered a PIN.
Will excess attempts kill the SIM?? I don't want to find out.

I don't think I'll ask for any PIN from AT&T. My Unite is now a doorstop unless something good is discovered.
