Goto startup options, disable anything not needed. Restart computer. Click OK on the new popup box.
Norton used to have a free tool to scan your computer on their home page. Unknown if it's still available. It's going to take multiple scans from various known companies to sanitize this computer. Do Not allow anything from this computer to touch other computers (memory stick). Do Not allow wife to infect other computers. Games, background downloads, Freemium downloads.
