right-click on each update that you don't want, and select "Hide". It will stay hidden until Microsoft reissues it as a new update.

Buy hiding the updates that you do not want to install it will cut down on the noise in the review list and make it easier for you to choose from the most recent updates that were issued.

Seems I read somewhere how W 7 is just Vista code minus some bling. And Vista's main curse was its new departure in code from XP needed all new drivers, but there weren't many around.

Seems like all those updates would make Vista more like the now venerable W 7

But carburetors were proven annoyance. I don't remember too many people protested when they were gone.
Look at Apple, they made a sage move by keeping 2 OS'es, one for their Mac's, one for their mobiles.

I have the 8.1.1 update installed and running on my laptop. Still no Start Menu ala Win 7.

Main changes seem to be that Metro apps can now be pinned to the Task Bar, Metro apps now have a top bar with "-" to Minimize and "X" to close in the upper right-hand corner and a menu in the upper left-hand corner with options to split left, split right, Minimize, Maximize and Close.

Moving the mouse to the bottom of a Metro app now brings up the Task Bar.

Running Metro apps are now shown on the Task Bar and can be switched to or closed from there.

The Start screen now has a Power button that allows one to Sleep, Shutdown or Restart.

Update: Microsoft has plugged the registry tweak and removed the files from the known Microsoft server locations, but you can find the bits on MDL forums or just look through our comments. Again we warn you that downloading files from non verified locations is not recommended..

A touchscreen is nice for a hand held device, but on a laptop, where you must reach over the keyboard to get to the screen, they're terrible. Extended use results in gorilla arm--after a short time, the arm gets sore and stiff, because humans aren't designed to hold their arms out and make small hand motions.
