New community forum
I was told of a website for neighbors to keep in touch with each other. www.nextdoor.com It's a forum where you can find out what is going on in your part of town, things like crime, new regulations and events.

- Even our small community of about 150 has a site on nextdoor.com. There is a phone app for it also so that when anyone posts a comment or question I get a notification on the phone. I can limit it to just our immediate community or our community and the neighboring areas.
Often get comments about events of local interest such as fires, accidents/road closures, security/burglaries/suspicious persons, lost pets, etc. - We've been members for a couple of months and it has been helpful. We are having a problem with mail thieves and one was caught due to neighbors posting on the site. A neighbor was alerted and saw a man breaking into the mailboxes, called the police and they got the guy. Just one of the many uses of the site.
- We have a rather loose knit community here, one young couple is sort of the coordinator for disseminating information around here. They also have a list of everyone who has a video security system and if and when something bad goes down hey let the PD have the list so they can check the recordings. We talk to everyone we can, some of the hipsters don't open up as much as say the Xers or Boomers but they are getting the community spirit too.
Try walking around and talking to anyone you meet on the street and say hi. Makes for fun too. - That's what I like about where I live.....we know our neighbors, actually talk with them face to face, town newsletter is sent out weekly and town council meetings are held each month where you can address Mayor and Council Members directly
Internet is a great tool.
But old fashion face to face is a communication skill that is being lost.
Do YOU actually KNOW your neighbors or just recognize them as someone that lives in area and you wave at each other :H
