Yes Dave, I know that; I've been doing Email since the time when you used a dialup modem to connect to the server.
Given that most people don't have access to any "other kind of network", for most of us not having Internet connectivity means not having any connectivity at all.
While your post is technically correct and some might find it informative, it has little to no practical value in the current discussion. As a practical matter, both types of email systems require Internet CONNECTIVITY to work.
