Nook vs Kindle

My granddaughter got a Nook for Christmas last year and has left it at our house because she could not use it. My wife got a Kindle for her birthday back in June and has not put it down. I set up my wife's kindle so I assumed I could get the NOOK to where my granddaughter could read books as she is an avid reader on her phone. I put some books on my Galaxy tablet and she reads them furiously. Now had I known last christmas all the things I know now about the Nook I would have had her return it ......... at 25 percent charged it takes 6 hours of charge time just to get to 50% it you have it on it will not recharge it must be turned off......also if you want to download free books you must enter a valid credit card number......what is up with that? Even BN does not know why. I tried to download apps and I found I get older waiting for them to down load then have no idea where they went as they do not appear in the apps folder......In other words the Nook does not live up to all the hype.......My granddaughter is tech savvy as I have to ask her questions on a regular basis and for her to give up on this tells me it is a piece of junk......

Ours do, but it takes many (many) hours. In point ours does not "show" charging (on the internal settings page)

The USB cable and charger provided with these are not made "standard", that is they are made to use was is normally a data line (in USB standard) to provide an extra wire to charge the Nook

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

Which Nook model? Some Nooks charge from any USB source, but to get a fast charge, you need the special USB charger and cable that came with the Nook

What you are describing sounds exactly like how our Nooks charge with a regular USB.

I mostly use Calibre to manage e-books for the Nook, and only buy a few from B&N

I am wondering since you mentioned apps which Nook you are referring to, obviously not the e-book Nook, so is it the Nook HD or one of the others.

I have a Nook HD+ and am very happy with it. And 2 Kindle 3rd generations non-touch, and a Kindle DX. I like them all.

Nook or Kindle? Ford or Chevy or Dodge?

Everyone has their likes and dislikes based upon their personal experience.

I use the Nook and am happy with it.

Interesting... I have a friend who went through 3 Kindles and finally said To heck with Kindle and bought a NOOK, she's pleased as punch with the NOOK.

However in your defense... She is also a member of MENSA,, Google it if you want to know what that means.. I'm not smart enough to be a MENSA member.
