Oregon Coast TV Reception?

Just a thought, since you already pay for direct tv why not have a set up for your rig. We use Direct TV with the HD Slimline dish at home so we can watch and record what we like. For the road we have a standard round dish on a tripod, total investment $40. We then use the non HD style boxes in the rig, an additional $6 per month, per box, which you can turn on and off anytime by calling direct tv so you only get charged when you use it. We keep them on all the time and use one in the garage and one in the guest room. Direct TV will also give you a filter you can add to these boxes so they can be used with the slimline dish so no need for an additional dish on the roof.

Here in Coos Bay I can get two stations from the bat wing. One PBS and one commercial.

I have experienced little to no OTA reception along the coast. Note that satellite TV can be challenge in some coastal parks due to the heavy tree cover. Always a challenge it seems. Good luck!

There are places where signals are available and others where there are not. The digital TV signal (actually it's the UHF frequencies) is weaker and must more easily blocked so even different sites in the same State Park will get different results.
The Batwing antenna with Wingman add-on (or the Sensar IV if you need a new antenna) will give you the best chance of reception. If you like to watch TV, I highly recommend that you bring your DirecTV box with you and purchase something like the Winegard Carryout antenna which will provide fully automatic reception of the DirecTV signal without the hassle of setup. The only restriction is that this type setup will not allow for the reception of the HDTV programming but the SD versions are still way better than no TV.

I know here at the southern Oregon coast in a state park....people are getting about 8-15 channels on their bat wing antenna.

I'm not taking my DirecTv setup with me. I will take a video player and some CD's with me for when no signal is available.

I spend a fair amount of time along the OR coast. If TV is important to you, then plan on getting a satellite system. There are very few OTA channels along most of the coast.

Be sure to get a portable satellite antenna as the parks in OR (particularly State Parks) tend to have trees blocking roof mount systems.

I am spending the winter here on the coast, I would say that it is really non existant.

Note even a few of the wonderful Oregon state parks have cable for a whole $1 more. But those sites full hook up sites book up fast the total is $23 per night with cable

In addition many of the cities and ports have campgrounds, I am currrently in the Port of Newport campground Good Sam summer rate here with cable is 37-39 per night
