please help with windows 8.1

I bought a laptop with windows 8.1. I'm slowly learning it when I have bits of time.
I don't find nearly as user friendly as XP was.

One problem I have is the screen. No matter what web site I'm on, it's way too big for the screen. I have to the sideways scroll to read everything. I understand scrolling down. But I have to scroll left to right to read everthing. I can't find a fix in the settings.
Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to fix this? Thank you or any help.

First thing you should do is download classic shell. Its free and safe..

It puts the start menu back on your PC. This way you can navigate just like XP and find all the settings easy.....

As far as page size, in the upper menu area with a web page open click view/ zoom out...

Thanks for the tip. I definitely don't like 8.1.

Boy, I sure do! I was able to get rid of Classic Shell and run it just the way it was designed.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Also Ctrl and mouse wheel up or down zooms in/out respectively.

Hitting Ctrl 0 will return the browser to the default zoom. Ctrl + zooms in, Ctrl - zooms out and no matter where you are, Ctrl 0 (zero) resets to default zoom.

No cat, I think it came that way. I've been trying to fix it for awhile.

Wonder how the zoom got set to 225%? You don't have a cat by any chance?

Thanks so much for the replies.
I was trying things, and found the icon on the upper right that looks like a gear (tools).

I tried the control + or - & that worked too.
Thanks for the links, I'll be reading alot while I'm up with the dogs tonight.
Have a great & safe holiday.

Move your cursor to the bottom left corner. Right click on the green icon. Select control panel and then select display. You should be able to change it there....I too went from XP to 8.1. it's a learning curve for sure..... Mike

If your only problem is your web browser, hit Ctl - to make the page smaller, Ctl + to make it bigger.
