Radio Volume Too Loud

I just purchased a 2013 Travel trailer that has a Jensen "touch" radio. The lowest volume setting is "1" and, at times, this seems too loud. Do others have this problem and is there a way to fix this? The sound quality is not great either. Would changing the speakers help?

Thanks
  • YES, new speakers WILL improve the sound quality. Just replaced the junkers in our living room with some Kenwood drivers that cost a whole $40/pair. Amazing difference!
  • Do a search for "speaker L-Pad". An L-Pad is a special rheostat configured to maintain a constant impedance while varying the level going to a speaker.

On many motor homes you not only have the radio, but a power amp under the dash somewhere....

IF and I stress IF this is the case,, the owner's manual bag may contain a remote gain control for the power amp, this is optional, Install it and turn it down.
  • As others have suggested, swapping out components is your only solution. Unfortunately, RV manufacturers build anything but the top of the line, luxury models, with pure crap.

I looked up the surround/DVD system that came in our Cyclone and found it new on AMAZON for $119 (Receiver w/DVD, 5 speakers plus subwoofer). It sounds like a $119 system too. :-(
  • Before you change speakers see what the
radio requires. I burnt up an amp by having too low a load.
Usually too heavy will only lower output on solid state items.
    Check to be sure.

    X2 ... upgrade to 8 or 16 ohm speakers

If you go with a resistor make sure its rated for power, 20+ watts.

  • I don't have that radio, but I sure do wish that I could hear any audio at a setting of 1. Even with hearing aids I have the radio in the car set to 20-30 in order to understand. In the S&B the TV is usually around 45-50 and I am sure that my neighbors hear it. Be thankful you have good hearing.
  • Appears you may have a mis-matched system.

Check the Jensen amp output against the existing speakers. You may have too much wattage for the speakers & they are actually overloaded.
