RV Tv's

We are looking at fifth wheels right now. On some of them the TV's are an option. Why are they $750.00 for a 32" TV? I am in the A/V business and can get 32" TV's, top of the line Samsung's for $200.00 or so. If we will never be boondocking and always plugged into shore power, why not just use a good residential TV?
Thanks

I am using Jensen TV's in all bedrooms on my boat. The moist sea air can corrode internal components. I agree that residential TV's in RV's are mostly fine.

One thing to remember when purchasing a TV for the RV is to look at the viewing angle, if you can go to the store and sit lower then off to each side to see what it looks like at those angles.

Most times in a RV you wont be looking straight on at it. I found out the hard way after buying and returning 2 TVs, that sometimes at those angles the screen is washed out or black making them un-viewable.

After buying and returning a Samsung and a RCA I found a Insignia that has a much larger viewing angle, 160 horizontal and 160ยฐ vertical viewing angles. I Run it off a small inverter or AC if I have hookups.

In my RV with the TV in the front or the rear bedroom you have to look up at it. This TV works great in both areas. The DVD quality is excellent.

Not to get off track but do you remember the tv's with tubes? I remember going to a corner drug store that had a display case with a big board with numerous pin patterns so you could plug your tubes in to test them. I wonder how well those tv's would stand up in an rv? ๐Ÿ™‚

I installed a Samsung 32 inch ($199.00).. bolted to top of counter top with Directv box...

added a harbor freight 400 watt inverter to trailer 12 volt system.. in case 110 volts is lost... storm, power pole is run over...

so TV, satellite receiver, computer... a few lights...

works just fine...

I have a 26" LG in my coach that has survived mountain roads so rough that the screws stripped out of most of my drawer slides.

Another thing about the Jensen RV TV's is their viewing angle which is much larger than many cheap TV's. Sometimes an important thing with odd seating layouts in RV's. If not needed, give me a Samsung.

I have top quality Samsung led tv's and they work just perfectly. My entertainment circuit has. Pro sine wave inverter. Perot for electronics. Scrap the jenson and buy a high quality pure dine wave inverter and don't worry about it.

We have 6 standard TV's in our MH (we didn't spec it out that way). They are residential off the shelf. They've been working fine for 8 years. Our residential fridge and microwave are also 8 years old. I actually wish the TV's would die so I can upgrade the technology.

I will have to think some about the TV's I've had in this RV. .Exactly one was replaced due to failure

OEM was a pair of Toshiba CRT units, old non-ATSC clearly they had to be replaced for assorted reasons but at time of removal they both worked as design.. one was removed in 2005 and replaced with a SAMSUNG flat screen, also non-ATSC thnis one lasted till about 2012/3 (that winter not sure exactly what month) and was replaced with a Sansi? (Wal-Mart Special). Which is still in service as a TV/Computer-monitor/DVR monitor (it has multiple ways it can accept information) all modces work save HDMI.. I do not have an HDMI device connected to it (I only have one and it's elsewhere).

Next to that one is a Samsung.. WHy.. Well the original Samsung had Picture in Picture so I could watch TV and computer at the same time.. The Sansi does not have this feature (neither does the new Samsung) both are ATSC wide screen by the way So the Samsung (Which I got cheap cause it was a floor model and they had lost the remote..... Uses same remote as my original Samsung..... Which I kept) it does the TV stuff while the Sansi is doing Computer.

Main TV got replaced with a DYNEX.. Why a DYNEX... Well it is EXACTLY the same width as the Toshiba it replaced.. Also flat screen Wide Screen and ATSC It also has the Chrome Cast plugged into it's side (My only HDMI device at this time.. Raspberry Pie on the wish list).

Oh.. MOST all the remote codes are the same as the Sansi so despite that one too came w/o remote (Pawn Shop) I was able to use it easily till I got the proper remote (Only the INPUT button did not work I had to do that one from the control panel instead of remote)

All work fine.

I have some older portable CRT jobs (2 of 'em I think) in the basement... I do not use them..(The color one was used for setting up sat antennas, I have no idea how old it was (Way older than RV) and I plan on getting a Sharp Flat Screen soon for use on rare occasions.. Mostly it will sit in storage.

not a one of 'em mindes bouncing down the road though the Samsung flat screen rides on top of the laundry basket (Just has to do with mounting is all)

Two of my TVs are Samsung. The other two are no name Chinese. They're all fine. Don't pay extra for an "RV TV".

Thanks for the replies. I was just gonna re box them when we did finally take off to see America. As for the mounts, being in the "business" I would never pay more than 15 to 25 dollars for a mount. Makes me laugh when I see the prices at Best Buy. HDMI cables too. To funny. I LOVE selling mounts and cables. No profit in TV's anymore. My cost is higher than retail stores.

Jensen is just plain junk.......

Replaced OEM analog TVs with Vizio 8 yrs. ago. 7 yrs of that was Full Time Traveling weekly. Lots of miles, lots of bumps/bouncing, lots of temp variations.

$750 option........just be grateful they aren't in one of those 'mandatory optional' packages :S

Install whatever LED/LCD you prefer and forget about those high price junk especially if Jensens

our 32" Vizio is mounted upright on a movable desk Monitor stand
so it gets to bounce with us and everything else, 5yrs old and doing great
lots of people on here very UN-happy with Jensen products,

their radios , dvd players , and TVs seem to have a High failure rate
kinda belies that "durability statement" about vibration, just doesn't hold water

TV Vizio 5yrs old
DVD player Phillips 7yrs old
media player Sony 4yrs old
PVR Homeworx 2yrs old

everything sets on desk or mounted to it, behind the co-pilot seat
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !
