SAT Dish and HD and TV's Obsolete?

Hi there, I hope I am can make this simple to understand. Hubbie is the expert but I do the research so "bear" with me please. We have a Pace Arrow Model 36D 2007. Samsung large t.v. in front and small t.v. in bedroom and an outlet outside for t.v. in compartment. First of all they have made the cabinets for DVD player with wires so short you cannot turn them around or bring them out to see what you are doing. The SAT dish on top will not do HD. So even if we get an extra box for Direct TV like we used to have I guess we would be limited. We have taken out the old DVD with VHS player and put in a Samsung DVD player with USB port. Now that system is not compatabile with the surround speakers?..so what we have is stupid really as I think what we need is t.v. that comes thru Internet? like Kindle t.v and we watch movies on Netflix and Amazon, plus I watch most everything on my laptop via a stored usb movie or Amazon. I think I would love to take these t.v.s out and use that room for an electric bed or bed area...anything really except these t.v.s taking up room and being outdated. Apparently technology changed fast and that dish on top is kinda useless? plus the recliner is just sitting there in my way because there is nothing to watch? Hopefully I have not made this too complicated I realize I am not fully technical and I do not watch t.v except for news so the t.v. fan, should have his t.v somewhere else? but how to get it is another issue. Of course I guess cable broadcasts in HD so we cannot even get that now on either t.v. except fuzzy picture...thanks in advance for any help...oh btw I understand that internet t.v would mean a park with good speed unlimited wifi and would not be able to hook up via my Verizon unless I wanted to pay huge data costs...
  • There are 1000's of us still using those roof top dome antenna's. They work fine for SD service and many of us are perfectly happy with SD. a digital SD picture is clearer and sharper than my eyes can distinguish; do I really need to see every wrinkle in their faces. I have 3 homes and 3 RV's and went back to SD setup in all of them.
as for the old TV's, its easy to take them out and replace with new flat screen TV's that work with either SD or HD.
Its really not complicated, its just some choices you need to make. What you have will work fine, just not for HD. or you can choose to replace it all and upgrade to equipment compatible with HD.
Relying on internet for your TV and movies is not very practical or economical if you're going to be mobile most of the time.
  • We too have the dome satellite on top of our '04 DP. You can't get Directv HD with a domed satellite. We decided to keep the dome satellite and do without HD TV. For over air channels, we use a digital converter box for the back TV which is the old analog TV that came with the RV. We did upgrade the TV in the front to a flat screen.
Internet TV when you travel isn't financially feasible for us. Way too expensive over wireless. You can't depend on the wi-fi at RV Parks for that purpose. Some people that have stick houses download stuff and watch it while they travel. We are full timers and that won't work for us. We can get movies via Directv pay per view and we have also used Red Box for movies. You can rent in one city and drop off in another.
  • Well Gee, I've used the same Direct TV Dish on top of our MH since I bought it 13 years ago and its the original Dish that came with the unit built in '96. The same Datron system....no HDTV but I barely installed that at home. I've upgraded all the TV's to HDTV and I do love it when I can get an HD over the air signal but I'm not soo much into TV that I need HD while traveling. JMHO

OH, just for kick's, I bought a 50" HD set last "Black Friday" for 200.00 bucks...it works perfectly in the MH.
  • You can get an HD dish if you shop around. Forget about RV park connections for TV.
