if the 97 is on the Receiver then I'd go with the short center conductor version of the problem I have seen that too.

Just try another coupler and see if it works. And....I have gotten 97 before on the 119 satellite....I use the Birdog meter.

What kind of antenna are you using and what model receiver? If this is a single LNB antenna and ON THE RECEIVER signal meter you are seeing a 97 on the 101 satellite then the only likely scenario is a bad coupler or a center wire that's a bit too short.
If you think it's the coupler just have someone watch the TV and touch the 2 ends of the coax and the 2 edges of the coupler together and you will see and instant picture. If not, we need more information about your setup.

That one is easyl.. There are three satellite finders I will talk about and one more "Class" of meters I have not personally used but have seen"

First is the roughly 30 dollar IN LINE meter which you likely have.... JUNK period It will find lots and lots of satellites.. Exactly ONE of which you want.

Next is DirecTV's meter (The Antenna pointing page in the set up menu) It is better cause it too will find lots of satellites but it will tell you WRONG ONE.

Finally there is DISHnetwork... It not only tells you right or wrong bird, but WIHCH BIRD it found so you know which way to adjust.. IN fact it is as good as the "Class"

Meters like the BIRD DOG which is the professional version (there are personal use that are cheaper) that tell you which bird you found.. JUST LIKE THE SOFTWARE IN THE DISH RECEIVER. and of course how strong the signal.

My recommendation: A small battery operated color TV hooked to an outside TV port and the software in your Receiver.. Just hook it up and watch the green line.

Me neither. What I dont get is I run a signal test on my home box that was set up by a DTV tech and its hitting 97-98. I can get mid 90s but no higher and low 90s is usually my stopping point.

The short copper conductor I learned the hard way. I could not pull a signal at a park and everything worked fine the day before. Exact same set up. I replaced the short cable from the LNB. I replaced the long cable to the rv. I finally connected a cable directly to the sat box bypassing ALL cables and got a signal.

The cable from the elec bay to the AV area that connected to the sat box was the culprit. It had just barely been making a connection and I guess the rough Louisiana roads jiggled it enough to make it quit.

Cut the connector off and put a new one on with the proper 1/4' past the threaded collar and that was that.
