We have one Hopper with sling in the RV, and a second Hopper with sling at our residence. The residence Hopper is downloading and storing programming and we watch that programming over the internet by streaming it to a laptop with HDMI out to the TV.Is there any way to download recorded programs from the residence Hopper to the RV Hopper over the internet so that I can use the DVR remote to watch programs?I also have a one terabyte hard drive connected to the RV Hopper that has Dish movies stored for later viewing. We're using a Verizon Droid Bionic as a hotspot to connect to the internet. I understand that this will consume extra data.Thank you for your help.

We do have the unlimited data plan. It seems like it would take less data to download the file from one hopper to the next, verses streaming it into the laptop from the residence hopper. Or at least, it would be the same. It would be great to move programs over during the night when there is little other usage. But I don't have a clue how to go about doing this...Thanks.

You move a file..the data used is the size of the file, plus the "incidental" command structure But I don't think it's possible to do from one hopper to another over the net

I don't think so. However, you could connect a USB hard drive to your home Hopper, transfer the programming from the Hopper to the hard drive, then connect the hard drive to your RV Hopper.

Data is data, and I guarantee the ISP is billing for any and all of it. Set your data meter, run any streaming device you choose and look at it again in 30 mins.

Also anyone streaming that kind of data (streaming multiple GB of streaming data) on a grandfathered plan will likely find themselves looking for a new carrier when they get canceled.

Not so with Sling / DISH Anywhere streaming (and AirPlay for that matter).

From DISH Tech Support:

The Internet is used when you first access dishanywhere.com or the app on your mobile device to log into the app or website. Once logged into the app or dishanywhere.com, the traffic is streamed locally on your home network and continues locally while the session is active.

Umm, I think the OP's already using the Hoppers in the way you've described, and is asking about slinging video over the internet.

The OP wants to effectively do a file transfer from one Hopper to another over the internet, not the LAN. But yeah, if it can be done at all, the LAN is the only way to do it. I suspect copyright agreements wont allow that tho.

Slinging Data from a Hopper over the internet to your RV will absolutely use Data........

Last Thanksgiving my family used 23GB over 2 smartphones with unlimited data plans.......in 9 days.....while in our Motorhome......it rained a bunch that week so we were stuck inside.....watched a lot of movies though!:B
