- AsheGuyExplorerTo those that have no use for a smartphone, they are just one more thing that people see differently, there are many others. :)
I was a late adopter but, like was mentioned above, I would not give mine up although I have desktop, laptop, tablet, etc.
I'll be 79 soon and it helps me remember where I have been when I don't remember. :)
If I didn't have my smartphone, I wouldn't have noticed how much exercise I have had in the last three years:
It also collects info that big brother could use such as where I have been in the last 4 years:
But I don't care, in the scheme of the universe we are all like grains of sand on a beach.
So, if you get along fine without a smartphone more power to you. Each of us get to make our own choices and as long as those choices don't infringe on others all is OK. - T18skyguyExplorerI was against getting a smartphone for the longest time, but now that I've got one I'm hooked. It's so useful. I like to ask OK google everything. It's power is amazing. For those of you that are about to upgrade, you might wait a bit because 5G LTE is about to hit the market. It's so fast lag will be a thing of the past. One writer said " you will be able to Lojack everything". The only phone thats 5G capable right now is the Samsung S8. They expect 5G to come available the end of this year or the first quarter of next year.
- mr__edExplorerI'm still happy with my "old fashioned" flip phone. I have no real use for any of the features provided by a smart phone. I place and receive calls just fine, and I like the smaller size. If I need to access the Internet my iPad or laptop can do that.
- 2oldmanExplorer IIExcel for checking is even older school than flip phones. Hey, whatever works!
- mleekampExplorerMy wife and I get by with flip phones that are 10 years old (mine) and 5 years old (hers). Do co-workers / friends / family make fun of us? Yes. Do we care? Yes...we care all the way to the bank with the $$$ we save. We use a desktop PC to do Excel (use it for checking acc, finances, etc) and internet. I personally could care less about connectivity when I'm camping. It's about disconnecting for us.
- steveh27ExplorerI do not own a smart phone. I have a tracfone for calls while traveling, but it does not connect to the internet. I pay for minutes, usually about $100 per year, a lot cheaper than smart phones. I do travel with a laptop & can tap into free wifi where possible.
- mileshuffExplorerI'm not one of the contributors. I'm using a few year old S5 and my wife has her even older S4. Why? Because for many many years we got a low cost or free phone every 2 years with 2 year contract renewal. Cost of phone was rolled into monthly payment. Over the years that payment has crept up 50% due to discounts we've had being removed. Now the low cost or free phone is no longer available. Instead of lowering our rates because of no longer subsidizing the phone, they instead want to lease us a phone at a still higher rate. When it comes time, I'll probably buy an old stock of a older model of a new to us used phone and shop around for who has the best plan. Little incentive to stay with the same carrier as we had. Rant over! lol
- 2oldmanExplorer IIWouldn't be without it.

How will people survive if they can't take their own picture 20 times a day and post them online? :B

Maybe if this keeps up a well placed EMP Burst will help.:M - rexlionExplorerI could have contributed to that record but I waited until last week to buy my new phone. I finally upgraded from an iphone 3Gs... the youngsters seemed to think it was on par with a dinosaur egg. :).
