Strange window on the comuter screen

Out of the clear blue I am getting a small window on the screen with print inside as follows:

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk 2\DR2

That critter is hard to get rid of. I do have an external hard drive hooked to the computer but has been there for years.

Your thoughts on getting rid of this issue would be appreciated.

I got to thinking (dangerous for me) about Allegro's comment again. The only thing I have been using a lot is the slot you stick the SD cards in. I have game cameras to monitor the night critters.

I stuck a card in that slot that was laying close by and now the prob is gone.

Don't know what will happen if I yank it back out but will see one of these days.

What OS are you using? How old is computer and if different internal HD?

This is a definite possibility, though I have seen drives drop and reconnect due to corrupt drivers. Have you checked in device manager for a yellow warning sign on your USB drives? Most times you can delete the driver in device manager and search for new hardware (or restart) and it will be rebuilt. If a corrupt driver persists, you will have to update it through mfgr website.

I started a backup that required several discs. I quit the backup before it finished and now I get that same message occasionally. I guess it would go away if I finished the backup.

I yanked the USB on the external and so far so good.

If that window does not show up today I will venture to plug it back in tomorrow.

I know there are lots of super smart folks here, but my first thought was a "VIRUS".

no.. they have they too be used at the same time

i'm forced to limit my use to TWO devices on the available usb ports
there fore i have to choose to use two external hard drives out of four available
or ONE HD and the DVD drive
NO internal cd/dvd

if i am processing a video from one drive and storing the finished product on another drive, it takes BOTH of the available ports
then to burn or transfer that file i have to unplug the first drive and connect the dvd burner

none of that has anything to do OP problem
Except that PC sometimes gives me the same message

when i get MY laptop back , all will be well

Get a usb hub and you can connect all you want.
