Streaming to TV from Cell Phone

I have Netflix on my phone and use a little wireless HDMI adapter to connect it to the tv.

A wireless HDMI? Does your phone see it as a bluetooth device then?

You don’t say , iPhone or android ? They are somewhat different I guess . We are Apple phone users and the answer and simplest for us is to use the $50 Apple to hdmi adapter, a dongle that plugs into the phones port and provides a hdmi out port. This uses no hotspot data it’s on phone data only as of you were watching on the phone. The Apple TV also allows wireless streaming but I rarely use it since we have the hdmi plugged into the tv all the time . If you have androids then of course doesn’t apply

Yes. I "cast" from my phone, so no wires.

I use YouTubeTV (love it) and I get my local channels when I am traveling.

I have a smart TV that has chromecast built in, but you can buy the chromecast adapter for $35 or so. Works like a charm.

I have a Sprint cell account with 50gb of hotspot date per phone. Have been from the mountains to the coast and watched TV everywhere.

Some depends upon how "not smart" your TV is. What connections do you have behind the TV and how are you watching TV now? Is there a free HDMI port? Do you currently connect satellite TV or a DVD?
The next most important is what kind of data plan do you have on your phone. Data is generally not cheap for large packages necessary for a lot of streaming. Most 4G "unlimited" plans are limited to a certain amount unlimited data and then your speeds can be slowed enough to make streaming pretty tough.

If you have an Apple, the HDMI adapter is the best thing, since all phones support hdmi.

Android, not many support HDMI, it is hit and miss. Not sure what a "wireless hdmi adapter" is for a phone?

Like Chris, I cast from my phone for apps that I want to mess with, like YouTube, or DirectTV. otherwise I use the chromecast directly, along with google assistant.

For example, my rv chromecast is named "trailer tv", so to watch Osmosis from netflix I do this:

"OK Google watch Osmosis from Netflix on trailer tv" ... a few seconds later, the TV turns on and the show starts playing (this is not a smart TV either), I can play, pause, ff/rw using the TV's remote too

Also works with Hulu;

"OK Google watch Manifest from Hulu on trailer tv"

Now for some stupid reasons, Amazon does not support casting to Google products, so, no help there. You'll need a cable, or something like a Miracast receiver to mirror the phone screen on the TV. That is very hard on the phone, they're not designed to have the screen lit up for hours at a time.

This may be the best way to go yet. Must your phone screen stay on while casting to the tv also?

I have an HDMI available to use and a DVD player connected through the AV connections and currently just use over the air when available with the antenna. I have 3 phones each with the highest unlimited data plans Verizon has and honestly may only use this an hour or 2 a day 3 to 4 days a month so it won't be a highly frequent thing we do.

So you mirror your phone with the chromcast and use the chromcast with the built in apps it has tethered to your phone for hot spot signal?
