Since S&T's is no more, I'm looking for program to plan route on laptop(still use GPS receiver), and be able to export route to Garmin. Don't find much with search. One I did find that sounded good was Garmin Mobile PC, but it seems to be discontinued.

The closest thing to S&T's is BaseCamp (free from Garmin).
But BaseCamp is a mind-twister to get started with - it works very differently from Streets & Trips.
Microsoft crippled Streets & Trips by not letting it produce an exportable GPX file that was compatible with Garmin.
Google Maps provides an export feature. Google's file extension is either a KML or .KMZ
The .KMZ file can be imported into BaseCamp
After importing the file into BC, you can arrange your waypoints as you like. Then Export your completed travel plan to your GPS receiver.
You could still use S&T's connected to a GPS receiver to see where you are on a map.
(I've used a Bluetooth GPS puck linked to S&T's on the laptop - is that what you're doing?)
And use your Garmin unit for instructional purposes.
To my knowledge, BC doesn't do real-time location syncing with the receiver.
