A svchost process can be associated with different services including updates. What happens when you end the process?

If your PC was working just fine not long ago then you can use System Restore from the Start Button, Accessories, System Tools. That will allow you to restore windows system settings to a date when your PC was working fine. It does not effect any of your own files, photos, music etc. but will effectively uninstall any programs you had installed between the restore date chosen and now. Quite often this simple method will fix these types of issues even if its virus caused.

I started having the same problem today and did a restore back to last month but it didn't change anything.I did start in safe mode and the comp acts normal then. Sure would like to know what it is and how to fix it.:M

Mine was caused by Trend Micro Internet Security on Win7 32. Changed to BitDefender. Problem solved.

mr. ed - when you say XP3, you mean Windows XP with SP3? If so, I think you'll need to download something like Process Explorer to identify the service that's actually using your CPU (svchost is just a container for 1 or more other services ).

Mine showed up as windows auto update,so how do I fix it? Can I just delete that process?:?

Are you using XP? If so, this looks promising.
